American Values Under Attack: County Replaces 4-Way Stop With Roundabout

Grew up with one. Currently live in an area with half a dozen.
-They keep traffic flowing
- Low maintenance
- No lights to lose power and cause 'total kaos'
- All but remove chances of significant collisions (T-bone/ head-on collisions)

Drivers who have problems are the same ones who hold up traffic at 4-way stops.

They are popping up in the california deserts...in the middle of nowhere.
I was driving down from San Francisco late one night on a two-lane highway I had used many times, and the navigation started warning about a traffic circle.
WTF IS THAT?

Seattle has put in over 1,200 roundabouts since 1973. New York had their first one in 1904, a few years before there was one in the U.K.

Hwy 12...

Four way stops are pain in the *** around here now half the people text when they come to a stop, then no one knows who is supposed to go. I do the 3 or 4 second count also. With the dummies around here roundabouts are the answer IMO, keeps traffic moving, no time to text.

I grew up with "circles" were we live, some people get confused as to who has the right of way. Basic rule is- Don't make eye contact and Go.

i loved the charger drift around the roundabout in a rainy European city. Based on the standard gauge tram tracks, I bet Brussels or Amsterdam. The wet tracks either made this precise drift easier...or harder!
pS: Remember the engineers who blew up stuff weekly on tv - I can't remember the name - well, they constructed a very well controlled experiment to test the hypothesis that roundabouts move more traffic. They do: 30% more.
However, the Commies have really confused Americans...Why else would there be a forest of ugly signs telling you how to enter and leave....??? Above correspondents are correct: In it, you own it. Here there is no apparent requirement to signal your exit. I do anyway. In the UK in the 60s and 90s, you were required to signal constantly: right, as you were turning clockwise, then left to exit. Now just signal to exit. In Europe, There are NO signs except occasional arrows on the ground if the roundabout is low

American Values Under Attack: County Replaces 4-Way Stop With Roundabout

BATESVILLE, IN — In what many called a brazen attack on cherished American values, the Ripley County Board of Commissioners announced that it had elected to replace a local 4-way stop with one of those roundabouts.

"I'm appalled by this Communist infiltration of our beloved town," said local motorist Buddy Caughorn. "I never thought I'd see wokeness take over our roads, but here we are, with these foreign loopy things. Disgusting."

Traffic experts claim that roundabouts are both a good way to keep traffic flowing and also a good way to waste tax dollars. Many have assured American drivers that they're all the rage in socialist hellholes like France and Italy.

"Do I stop? Do I yield? I don't understand it, and I don't want to!" said a local mom upon entering the roundabout, immediately causing her brain to shut down, which led to a 20-car pileup. "Whose terrible idea were these?

Already, Batesville police had reported 32 dozen accidents on the new roundabout.

i LOVE roundabouts... i have a bunch near my house.. i live on a main road and during the summer we used to get a 3/4 mile back up when the intersection had stop signs.. now it's like 7 cars tops..

the main problem is people will bitch about roundabouts instead of taking 30 seconds to learn how they work.. i have watched people turn left into them and get hit... OR.. the people that stop when there are no stop signs.. and no other cars around (that one makes me insane)

Literally 30 seconds on google would make people not be so scared of lines on a road...

EDIT: Missed that this is in the joke forum.... jokes on me :)

P.S. the fact someone is calling it "American values and communism" is some of the most crybaby **** i have ever seen....

I use my signal in them, ones near me are mostly 1 lane so you can turn or go straight... it infuriates me when i'm waiting on someone entering and they turn which means i stopped for nothing which could have been avoided if they used their signal...

BUT.. when everyone weaves in and out perfect and everything flows.. it's such a nice feeling :)

People have tougher time understanding sarcasm than they do round abouts.

DAMNIT! I 100% missed it's in the joke forum :)

And the problem is sarcasm doesn't come over well in text.. and also... i have dealt with soo many people here that actually talk/think like that "Article" that is comes off as real... There was even a post in a "neighbor" forum asking people to google how roundabouts work and instead they spent more time posting about how they hate them instead of learning to use them. So it's just a sore spot for me...
