‘68 Bee finally getting some love.

So I moved my ‘68 Bee into the shop to try and freshen things up before summer. I pulled the seats in 2024 and had my upholstery guy install some Legendary covers. They’ve been sitting in the garage since, waiting for me to take care of lots of little interior issues such as rebuilding the A/C and Heater box, wiper seals, and new carpet. Pulled the A/C box a few days ago. Today I vacuumed and cleaned the floors. Looking pretty good so far.

Yes, original paint and lots of dings and a couple of dents. She was sold new at Hinckley’s Dodge in Ogden Utah and moved to the California desert in 1972, I bought her in October of ‘75 for $400. Pretty much a survivor although I have been rebuilding things over the years. Also 1 of 447 68 A/C Bees, white over dark red (Maroon), Stripe delete, radio omitted. Pretty rare combo for sure.

Ya it makes working on this car a joy. Attached is a pic of the trunk floor above the gas tank. I actually reused the original tank pad.

That is one insanely solid car. Apparently road salt is not used in Idaho?

Never been out in the winter here. It lived almost all of its life garaged in the Mojave Desert where sheet metal is immortal and the sun petrifies paint and interiors.

The tank pad is basically 30# felt paper used for cedar shingles. It’s a heavy tar coated paper. A small roll will last you a lifetime. LOL

I’ve been messing with leaky wiper transmissions since the early 80s. Often times the seal packages with the thick black foam donut and white body seal did not stop the leak. The water was traveling down the shaft and coming out the back into the car. I bought NOS transmissions in those instances.
Does anyone rebuild or reproduce transmissions?

Desert cars are amazing. I’m a rust belt guy born and bred, but I was fortunate to own three of them. Mixed bag, a ‘62 Imperial, ‘60 Chrysler 300F, and a ‘79 Cadillac Seville. Did a route 66 road trip with the Caddy in 1997, Phoenix to Chicago. It was my daughter’s high school ride.

Actually original tank pad is heavy coated felt on about 1/4” of yellow fiberglass batt. Rust magnet in any other environment. The “reproductions” I’ve seen aren’t even close.
