A lot more to do but making progress.
Back bench seat needs foam as well. Will be placing an order tomorrow for all the seat foam.
Hoping to pick up some burlap locally.
Have over 100 hog rings left from when I did my signature car. Hoping that will be enough.
I went the extra mile when I rebuilt my buckets. Even wove wire bolsters into new burlap as the foam base support - just like factory.

You are doing great work on this build!!!
What size wire did you use for that?

What size wire did you use for that?
I don’t know what size the wire was. I just picked a size that seemed to be as stiff as the original ones. Instead of the paper rope that the factory used at the sides, I substituted plastic coated metal clothesline to ensure it always provided good anchors for the ends of the metal wires.

You’re doing great work on this project! I like your attention to minor details.
 
Whoever recovered the seats that last time had made some repairs.
You can see the burlap is gone and extra foam pieces were added.

Looked at the bench seat and its foam is in the same condition. Lot's of work ahead.
 
Got the metal all blasted, primed and painted.

Waiting for a quote on the seat foam so I can get it ordered.
Plan to start dismantling the driver seat next.
 
Had my gas tank pressure checked by a local shop. They told me it is fine.

Decided to clean the rust off the tank and started using sanding discs and wire.
It was taking forever and not really giving me the results I wanted.

So I got the media blaster out and tried the top side of the tank.

Much quicker and better results.
Going to try spraying it with DTM clear coat and see how it turns out. Saw a post from another guy who used it and was quite impressed.
Well the bad news is that when I started prepping this tank for paint, I noticed what looked like a bunch of dust come out of the inside as I sprayed the tank off with air.
I aimed inside to blow it out but it seemed to never end, so I looked inside with a flashlight and there was quite a bit of rust in there.
Apparently, the guy I paid to pressure test and clean the tank, didn't do a very good job.
Not going to risk using this one, just going to order a new one.
 
The driver's seat bottom had a broken spring.
It was pushed down under everything and I had to bring it back up to get this picture.

I media blasted everything and then welded the spring back together.
Used a large screw driver to exert pressure on it to make sure it was securely welded.

My seat also had a broken spring. I wonder how this happened. Nice work!
 
Yes, it makes you wonder what how heavy someone would have to be to sit on a seat and break a spring?

Started working on the rear bench seat back yesterday (still waiting for seat foam to show up) and three of the 1/4" diameter vertical bars were bent. One bent sideways in the center, the other two bent inward. Also one rear corner section of the outer spring support was bent 1/2" lower than the opposite side.

I mean the car is only 58 years old, who knows what it has been through?

Are there any step by step upholstery instructions out there?
I did them on my signature car but that was a long time ago and I want to be sure I get everything right the first time.
 
Tons of vids on Utube that will show you the various methods to get your seats done to your satisfaction. I use quite a bit of jute where you need to thicken up spots so you don't have wrinkles in the vinyl. Take your time and they will look great.
 
Another question is whether I should run a fuel filter before the fuel pump?
I know the one with the return line is installed after the pump but wasn't sure if it would be helpful or necessary to run a filter before the pump?

What tank and pump set up are you using?
 
I would not run one before the filter. That diaphram pump is much better at pushing fuel than pulling it and it already has a heavy lift dragging the fuel all the way from the tank. I think it's best not to burden it any further by adding a restriction on the supply side.
 
Then the prefilter is the sock on the pickup in the tank, so no, you don't need a prefilter there.

I had to order a new fuel filter and couldn't believe how much they wanted for them. Most were out of stock but I found one and ended up paying just under $50 with tax and shipping included.
