John DeLorean badly wanted a two-seat Pontiac sports car for GM’s excitement division and had the Banshee XP-833s built as a proposal to GM executives Courtesy of Freeze Frame Image LLC

DeLorean had that XP-833 built in 1964, and was told not to proceed because GM executives were afraid it would overshadow the Corvette. Ironically, they then told Bill Mitchell to update that design with a Chevrolet flavour, and it became the C3 design for 1968.
 
I thought Larry Shinoda designed the 68 "Mako" C3.
