Helmet options

I buy the cheapest current snell approved helmet I can find. For the same exact reason I buy the cheapest approved five point harness.
When it becomes useless for no reason other than the capriciousness of rules designed to make suppliers money, I give them as little as possible.

Helmet recommendations please.

Most recent purchase was a 2020 snell open face RaceQuip. Nice helmet, good price if I remember, but this was right after snell 2020s appeared. I don't know if 2025 is available, or how much. Haven't shopped for a helmet in years.
The BEST helmet I ever owned was a top-of-line Shoie, when I was still street riding. It's still a great, safe helmet....... and hasn't been usable in a drag car for thirty years. Roughly $1000 helmet today, not the $5000 carbon Fiber version.

Summit has a closed face Racequip 2020 on sale for about half what a 2025 costs ($169/$335). But you're giving up six years of legal use.
Kinda depends on if tech looks at your helmet. Irwindale always did.

Thanks.

Been to 4 tracks in past year. I got checked and a warning at Darana Dragway 42 a month ago, but not anywhere else. He said that my car was “just a stock deal” and gave me a warning this time and wrote it in his notes. I just went with it.

Yeah. Especially belts. Im due for both. It will be my 3rd. The first two are in fine condition, but the supply boys need to get paid!

Also at 9.99 and faster you need a cage not just a rollbar
That's not a problem.
My 62 will never be a nine second car, the Tina has a cage (did have to add a rocker bar and dash bar to be okay at Irwindale tech) and the Opel was an eight second car at one time. Pretty sure it will need some cage work to run nines again...... which is why im shooting for 10.15, lol.

I've got some WAY-expired Crow cam locks that I'm thinking about having re-webbed. That has never made any sense to me for the cheaper latch style when they time out.
Last engine I pulled, couldn't find my chain, (at the other house) so I used an expired 3" lap belt. Had to be good for something, it clearly wasn't safe any more. (Sarcasm)

Yeah. Kinda glad it didn’t run under 11.50. I think I woulda been out.
I used to get hassled every now and then at Irwindale when I occasionally went quicker than 6.40 (9.99), but never got bounced. The car was easily legal for sub 6.40, but I didn't have (or want) a license.
It took quite a bit to get bounced at Irwindale.
The one guy I did see get tossed, richly deserved it. Half ton 4wd Chevy pickup, with no cage, just a lap belt,
....... and a twin turbo 427 inch LS, that went mid 5s at 130. Thrown out before he got to the time slip shack.

It's whatever your budget allows, Do you want to spend $200 or $5,000 and some even more. I don't think I'm going 10.0 anytime soon so I will stay with a G-force open face in the lower end of the scale. I tried on a Zamp helmet but it didn't feel right on my head. The G-force I have now fits nice and I also like the Bell Mag4 I used to have.
Literally hundreds of helmets to choose from.
