Purchase a 20' length of 2x2x? and have enough for 2 cars for less money. Cut them into the floor and incorporate the floor into the structure for more rigidity.

That design clip is also used to hold the top trim clips on over the windshield. Needle nose pliers will work. They are a one use design, in my opinion. On my 65 I straightened out the folds and drilled a hole in the center. Then used thread inserts and screws to retain the clips.

As an alternative idea, I have found that the liquid rubber that comes in a can (marketed as a coating for pliers handles) works well for plug wire holders (on bare steel), recoating on valve cover wire clips, hood latch handles, window glass stops, etc.

On the other hand, my 65 had left fender damage (filled with bondo) that pushed the entire fender assembly rearward. I did not think it was bad and replaced the inner due to battery caused rust. Also got a replacement fender. Had major bodywork done at a reputable shop but, nothing was "bolted...
I used many cans of this on my Belvedere and Coronet. Each can comes with the long tubing so, I spliced 3 tubes together and using my x-ray vision, sprayed the hell out every nook and cranny. It even creeps into flat, skin welded to skin, sheet metal. It was running out of joints everywhere!

When I repaired the cowl on my 65 Belvedere I completely removed the panel to weld in the inner and outer patch panels. When it was assembly time I used weld thru primer on the under side of the outer panel and completely covered the top of the inner panel with fiberglass mat and resin, filling...
All cars, even today, are a product constructed to sell and "make money". Don't you think a pickup truck box could be designed to not rust out around the fender opening?
