Karl, you must use an LED flasher with the LED bulbs.
Here is the one I used.
I bought two of them, one for the turn signals and the other for the 4 ways.
I would say yes, it sounds like the switch on the valve.
FYI - I'll be at the Mopar show at Heart Lake Conservation Area coming up on June 7th.
Gonna take my Runner to it.
Hope to see you there.
I saw your GTX at the Spring Fling show - still looks great!
Try pulling the parking brake lever and lifting the pedal all the way to see if the light goes out.
Also try disconnecting the wire going to the parking brake, that will turn the light off.
If the light stays on after that then the...
Both the 4 way flasher and the turn signal flasher are located above and to the right of the ash tray.
If you can get your head under the dash in that area you should be able to see the flashers.
You can see one of the flashers in this photo circled in red.
Erik - the 71 rear light bulb sockets are swaged into the housings.
If you try to remove them you will destroy them.
Over time, corrosion gets in-between the bulb socket & housing there by losing the ground.
Grounding the sockets individually is the solution. Some guys remove the original bulb...
Ron Francis wiring has this single filament bulb socket.
Check out their website.

The single filament socket.
Sounds like more of a grounding issue. Check all grounds including where the dash frame is attached to the car.
I added an additional ground wire on the back of my dash cluster (see highlighted wire).
By all means check the headlight switch too.
The washer bottle pump has a ground wire - did...
Doug, no concern for me as my Runner is a fair weather car.
In the off chance I do get caught in the rain - I filled up the back of the socket with Die-electric grease for now.
If that doesn't work then perhaps a dose of RTV instead.
Just an update on this.
I finally got around to fixing the socket issue.
First - remove the broken socket out.
The Ron Francis instructions indicate that the opening has to be 3/4" for this new socket to fit......well the opening is much bigger than that. It's over an inch in diameter.
So, I...
Tim, I used these on my 71 Runner. I got them from Amazon.
This is how they look in the housing.
Then, combined with red LED's for the tail lights.
Now on the car...
There are better LED's on the superbrightleds.com website.

Nacho, as usual you are correct.
I have that bracket but ordered it after the dash went in the car.
Maybe an over the winter project to install once I get my leaky heads figured out...
Ben,
There are 3 of those sheet metal brackets with the plastic dipped ends. Two of them are located above the glove box which hold the wiring that goes to the passenger door for the dome light switch.
I will try to get you a picture of them.
The third one is under the main one for the bulk of...
I used these LED's for my 71 Runner tail lights.
And these are the reverse lights.
Here's what they look like installed in the housing.
And with the lens on.
You will need this flasher to work with LED's.
Yes, those are the ones I bought.
Depending on the color you use, they should not be too bright at all to have to dim them.
Don't forget you can buy them with higher or lower output lumens.
For 1971 the bulb base is the round one not the flat pigtail style.
