Yes I did put a return spring on the lever on the transmission. The lokar cable reverses the operation so there needs to be a spring on the lever instead of at the throttle because the cable pulls the lever back instead of the rod pushing it back.
Just another relatively easy test is to put the cooling system under about 15 psi with a Pressure tester as they are inexpensive. Pump it up and let it sit under pressure and you can find out fairly quickly if there’s anything you need to address.
I tried to outline the adjustments in this picture, you can see that there is plenty of cable length which is important. Make sure you have extra cable length.
Adjust the cable and housing length, and also you can adjust the length of the cable. If I remember correctly the stroke has to match the same distance as the throttle so at wide open throttle the lever is just at the end of its travel on the transmission. Very small adjustments make an...
Lokar cables are easy to work with and kick down can be adjusted and fine tuned from the top. As mentioned a spring should be put on the forward end of the transmission arm to make sure the arm returns properly. This basically replaces the spring that is normally at the top of the old linkage...
Part of the fun is learning how much work goes into making these cars so much fun to drive and deciding what’s in the budget for either dyi or taking a gamble on a shop. My Charger has the 400 motor from a 78 Cordoba that was purchased for that swap. The headers were a pain even with the swap...
Dumb question but did you check the ports on the booster to make sure there were no plastic plugs inside ? Those plugs are easy to miss, don’t ask how I know. I am not being a wise a** here and please don’t take me the wrong way.
Looks like you’re taking time to get all those little details sorted out and this motor should serve you well for quite a while. As always awesome work and keep the updates and pictures coming.
Thank you for taking the time to keep everyone updated as your mission approaches the finish line.
Real nice upgrade on the brake system. I think you will like the hydraulic booster because they have a different “feel “ than standard vacuum booster. Looking forward to your opinion after you get back on the road.
Was the car originally a small block? Someone will correct me if I’m wrong but the right inner fender may be different and sit in closer to the engine. Just my 2 cents.
This has so far been a relatively easy change over and I also replaced the fuel tank with an earlier 71-72 tank with the pump inside because it seems like not much to choose from for the 74 with that hump. Early tank went right in and ran all new lines to the firewall. So the complete fuel...
Pretty much any ignition system should work. Check the wiring directions. Currently mine has a ready to run distributor that I put in when I temporarily removed the MSD system while doing other things. I have the whole Holley sniper distributor and coil and the ignition box sitting on my...
So far I really like the sniper system. I recently let the car sit untouched for over 5 months and just turned the and let the pump finish and start the car. Very smooth fire up on the first turn of the key. No problems at all and it seems the so called learning is making this...
I installed the sniper efi on my Charger and went with lokar cables for both throttle and kick down. Got rid of the clunky linkage and simple to adjust. Went with the sniper throttle bracket as well and things lined up nice.
:xscuseless:
I had a situation where the axle housing was twisted for lack of a better term. My car was a 65 sport satellite and was regularly abused. Seemed like there were several different vibration issues and pretty much all were coming from the back of the car.
Compared the bare housing with...
I had a similar problem when I put lokar cables on my Charger and the simple thing that seems to work is putting a mild spring on the transmission lever that goes forward towards the bell housing to keep light tension on that lever. The cable pulls from the rear and the rod linkage was pushing...
