Just doing this on my '70 RR. On RTE's site, they say the condenser is not required but can be left on along with the insulator board for appearances. My cluster was restored by David Patik a few years ago and he tested the original limiter. I decided to go with the RTE limiter because I don't...
Somewhat related - how many screws are used to attach the dash to the cowl below the windshield? I thought (5), but there is this sixth hole that is very close to one in the center. See attached. Do you add another clip and screw here and make it six? This is a '70 B body.
Thanks.
To finish this off: I removed the fuse block flap by removing the three staples. Used the same staples to resecure the bottom overlap. Then moved the fuse block flap to the correct position on top. I just hot glued the flap instead of using staples. I did however use a silver marker to give the...
I contacted Detroit and haven't heard back. I have bought many things from them and happy with their product line. I think they just missed on this one. Maybe they have it already figured out? I sat and stared at the flap thinking I must be missing something and didn't have the old one to go by...
Pretty sure I bought from Detroit muscle but not 100%. Looking at their website and their part, the tags look the same as what I have. AND the flap is mounted incorrectly!!! Flap is on the same side as the slots like mine. That's wrong. Classic Industries' liner is correct and looks like...
Thanks for the pic and yes, mine is made wrong. If you look at my pic, the flap is mounted on the same side as the slots along the edge. On yours, the slots are opposite the flap mounting. That makes sense and the way it should be. I don't remember where i bought it from and has been too many...
You are correct and the flap should cover the rear of the block. But the short part of the flap where attached to the liner is in the same position as the mounting strap for the fuse block. How does that piece go around the mounting strap? Do I cut a hole/slot in it for the strap to slide through?
I bought a replacement glove box liner for my '70 R Runner. Everything makes sense except for the cardboard flap that should cover the backside of the fuse block. See pics.
With the fuse block mounting brace welded to the dash frame, I don't see how the lower flap of the cover will fit over or...
I had the same problem with my glass installation being too tight. But I used new AMD glass and pretty sure the curve of that is too much to match the curve of the channel. I had the new curved fuzzy strip btw. I determined that the plastic shoes were not helping the tightness. Without the...
I used Ballistic SSBK and like the black foil and like it. I was also concerned about an asphalt smell. I molded rubber for 40 years and all elastomers are not created equal. It is very possible to add fillers to cheapen the product and what I was worried about with the less expensive products...
Yes, it is a mess. Luckily, my vent glass from ECS was ok. I never did update this and will now. The Qtr glass was too tall by 1/4". My solution was to cut the arm of the regulator by 1/4" and weld back together. This is the arm that connects to the pivot bushing on the glass frame. Did that...
69_Coronet makes an excellent point. I molded urethane for decades and using the proper grease is critical. Certain urethanes are compatible with mineral grease but I suspect this type of urethane is NOT. As stated, the white sticky grease is silicone based is what you want to use for these...
I gave up and found new cylinders. Kind of a waste, but oh well. The new front cylinders are close, but use a different outer dust seal. The original ones used a dust seal that had a metal ring molded in and press fitted on the cylinder. The new cylinder's dust seal is like the rear's. Stretch...
So the verdict is......The AMD qtr glass is too tall. Charles was a tremendous help and measured his original qtr glass. Comparing his to the new AMD piece, the new glass was consistently 1/4"+ taller. Only a 1/4", but it is that last 1/4" rise where the regulator moves mostly forward and only a...
