Does the starter relay have the ground tab to connect a wire, or is it the kind that grounds via the case?
Some of the Mopar relays come with a G tab, some come with no tab but the post is soldered/grounded to the relay case, aka body of the car.
The soldered ones can crack/break at the solder...
I installed EFI years ago, with it I installed Positive and Negative hubs.
Negative hub under the dash, Positive hub under the dash, both IGN and RUN connected here, along with EFI and Coil/Distributor.
Negative hub next to the battery with 1 wire to the battery neg.
Grounded everything to one...
I bought the $299 AAW harness for my 62 Dart, with the alternator/maxi fuse kit too.
The only pain part was the amount of wire they give you.
I bought original style Packard male/female connectors, used the original plastic connectors from my original harness.
Yes, it is set up for GM stuff...
62-64, I have a few switches with the same symptoms.
Brake lights intermittent, if I spin the center of the switch it sounds a little crusty, plug it back in lights work.
Eventually brake lights are back to intermittent, and when they do work feed wire connector seems a little warm while...
Bulkhead connector deleted. I put a plate over it, drilled a hole, put a small grommet in, and the speedo cable goes through it.
Electrical:
All wires going through the firewall, and there were not many, I put into a homemade harness, just by using harness tape, not actual tape.
Except - I kept...
For my 62 Dart, nothing is available.
Bought the AAW $299 kit, some Packard male/female connectors, used the plastic connectors I needed from my worn out brittle wire harness, done.
AAW harness comes with way more than $299 worth of wire, modern fusebox, maxi fuse block, alternator kit, etc.
I had the same issue on my 64, not sure if the same animal, but here goes.
Left side if dash lights out, same side directional barely blinked.
Spun the light switch back and forth multiple times, it cleaned it up and got the left side of the dash lights back on.
Grounding the front...
I don't understand it myself.
I went through multiple defective aftermarket alternators when I put this car together.
A complete nightmare of new garbage.
Parts store even gave me a new battery at one point, I think at alternator #3, because I showed up in the parking lot with tools to replace...
I greatly appreciate the simplicity of older cars.
My Valiant lights started to flicker, it was the + connector on the VR.
My 64 battery died, I knew the issue was limited to a few possibilities, wiring, VR, battery, it was the alternator.
For what it's worth, MSD, solid state VR, grounded...
I always buy the $13 flasher from NAPA, Part #: NF EL12.
The sound is of a reliable working flasher, where the bulbs and the indicator flash consistently and don't struggle to barely flash once a minute.
I always put a ground hub next to the battery and run the small ground off the battery cable to it, ground everything in the engine bay to the hub.
I put one in the interior as well and ground it to the engine bay hub.
I had the same issue with my front turn signal, iirc the ground for the turn signal on the '64 is the housing itself to the bumper with the screw, poor ground at best.
Cleaned it up, and I may have run a wire from the screw to the headlight ground on the radiator support.
Also, changed the...
Running, not 'popping' anymore.
I found the correct points, after driving to multiple parts stores over the weekend.
I'm not convinced it is running 100%.
I'll probably replace the cap/rotor/wires/plugs even though they were replaced 30 years ago and the car was never fired up.
If interested...
I checked for play in the distributor shaft, removed cap/rotor.
No wobble observed when cranking engine.
When I try to move the shaft side to side with my hand, it seemed to have a very, very, small amount of play, yet a little more side to side as opposed to front to back or other directions...
My understanding is the early distributors and points are different.
The tab the coil wire and points spring mount to is isolated from the distributor with a non-metallic bushing under it.
The points have 2 'springs.' One comes off the points same as the newer style, the other is copper and...
So I'll go through what I checked later.
First pic is distributor in the 325.
The important question is should the points just be hanging out on the opposite side of where the condenser screws on with the coil wire?
My guess is no.
So I looked at a distributor I have off a 383, which has a...
I shot a video today of the stumble, but I can't even hear it in that video.
The link below is multiple videos made over months put together.
I hear it at around the 48 min mark, and it seems to go away once I drive it, as well as at the hour mark.
It appears it has come and gone and I never...
