I think I just left it untapped on the 360 in my ‘79 Dodge W200 Power Wagon. I pulled all the bullshit off of it when I got it. Air pump, charcoal canister, ignition delay module, OSAC. It ran good without all that stuff. No lean burn on it tho.
Back in the day when ‘67 HP closed chamber heads were the hot ticket, I broke off a stud flush on one of the heads. I took it to a guy that burned it out with a torch. Then it leaked like hell. I took it to another shop and the machinist drilled it out, and tapped it for a pipe plug. He then...
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a factory ‘69 A body 440 mount, and have seen plenty of 383 mounts. My ‘Cuda is a ‘70 so it used the standard B body mounts. My point was that there are 440’s with those bosses that are tapped. Was originally for the ‘65-‘66 C body. Maybe over the years they...
Yeah. Not often seen. All ‘65 440 blocks I’ve seen have them as they were only put in C and D bodies for the ‘66 MY. The ‘69 factory 440 A bodies all had them as well.
I have a ‘69 383 block that has those bosses. If I recall, the ‘65 C bodies and maybe ‘66 used them for motor mounts. The later ‘67-‘69 A bodies used them for the drivers side motor mount on the 383 and 440. Could be a motorhome used them later.
What’s stamped on the block only referenced what it had when new. Back in the 80’s, I witnessed the tear down of a matching # block in a ‘71 V code ‘Cuda. It had a cast crank and the 8.5 to 1 pistons in it. It ran great, but the guy said it didn’t seem to make much power. 8^]
I bought both my E87 D21 ‘70 ‘Cuda and ‘70 Charger back in the early 80’s specifically because they were factory 4 speed cars. Even then gathering all the parts was a daunting task.
Yup. One and done. I’m a Mopar lifer. And I remember the hot ticket was the ‘67 915 closed chamber heads that have “HP” stamped on the two bolt boss. I put em on my ‘70 Six Pack Charger for a little extra compression. Back then they were worth money as the 906 heads littered the junkyards.
I can’t imagine anyone using the old cast iron heads, unless the are going OEM resto or get a freshly done set for cheap. The aluminum heads will allow you to run higher compression on pump gas. They will take about 50 lbs. off the front end, and most flow way better than any stock head.
