I got it by the roll. Take the backing off to expose the Sticky side, Then wet the strip and the channel it with a water spray bottle. Press into place with a bondo spreader, then trim. The water is the key.

The vacuum pump comment reminds me of when I ran one on my injected '70 Vette, the suction it created was absolutely incredible and it certainly evacuated all the crankcase pressure!! I've never shown that car here (for obvious reasons) but here's a picture of the engine with the vacuum hose...
