No, the column must come out. Don't be afraid, it isn't outside of your skill level. The steering box is sandwiched in between the column and the K member. You have to pull the column rearward to allow the steering box to also move back to come out.

Have a 1971 road runner and need a set of air grabber hood hinge springs. (heavy duty) Just changed to a N96 hood with the air grabber assembly and hood will not stay up with regular hood springs.
