One consideration is that with the shifter mounted directly in front of the bench it won't be able to be moved forward to let people in the back, etc. I ran this way for a while and if I wasn't going to go back to column shift I was going to build a tall bracket the mounted the shifter high...
I need a replacement fender tag as well. I will only include options I know came with the car since I bought it in 74 with 40k miles. Nothing fancy: 383, column shifted 727, 3.23 8 3/4 rear, Torred, black vinyl roof, black interior, lighting group, AM radio, black rear triple stripe, dust...
Good stuff, thanks for sharing. So it looks like HD or Severe Duty clutches operate up to 90% water pump speed so pretty close. It talks about fan pitch, anyone have any info on the angle for most 60's 70's Mopar fans? Thx
Reviving this thread, a couple of questions about clutch vs solid fans. Do the Hemi/440-6 Torque Clutch aluminum fans move as much air as a fixed steel solid fan? If so, is there an aftermarket equivalent to the Mopar clutch? I thought I read somewhere that there is a specific part number...
I believe Accurate exhaust has videos of both their Hemi and performance mufflers, both sound good to me. I'm going with 2.5" Dynomax Ultraflos after a ton of research including videos and recommendations.
I've got a Mopar M1 Dual Plane under my 70 Airgrabber air cleaner but will try my DP4B when I rebuild the motor. Of course, the six pack intake / air cleaner works just fine as well.
Totally agree, and that's actually why I'm trying to get feedback on 'stock appearing' builds to see the HP/TQ available for these combos, vs the 432 build, Stealth CNC'd heads, Dougs 1 3/4 headers, Lunati cam shown above to see what my choices are. I could always take a middle road with the...
Thanks, I totally agree. One other concern is the Crane cam is VERY 'lopey'. I want to put Classic Air on it and don't know if it would want to stall when idling or other issues at low RPM. Back then I'd never put A/C on the car as that would slow it down, now living in central Florida I need...
This is actually one of those motors that ran better than it had any right to! Back in the mid-70's when I was in high school it outran 454 Chevelles, 440 Roadrunner, a 428 CJ Mustang, built 351C Mach One, Buick GS455, SS 396 Nova, and a bunch more. It has the same Crane cam, TRW pop up...
It's more to keep it as original as I'm willing to keep it. I want a little more performance over stock but keeping the majority of the engine in 'one piece' is what I'm after.
Cruising, regular car shows, stomping on it when I think it's safe to do so, definitely a lot of stop signs and lights around town but nothing like Atlanta where we're from, hard to say about the freeway driving, I'd probably drive 2-3 hours to go to a show in Tampa or Orlando but probably not...
To be fair the thread title is " Kind of 'stock' 383 build questions? " and I qualified the stock part with " I've now decided to keep it 'mostly' stock, at least as far as keeping the original 383 engine, 727 trans and 8.75 rear goes. " So I left open the possibility of internal upgrades that...
Hi All, I have been waiting to rebuild my 70 Roadrunner for so long I've now decided to keep it 'mostly' stock, at least as far as keeping the original 383 engine, 727 trans and 8.75 rear goes. I've already spent some serious money on performance parts, many I'll likely not use now (can you say...
Possibly wrong symptoms, but resurrecting a car that's sat for a while fuel pump and fuel filter would be other things to check and/or replace. Did you empty the tank when you got started or just add better gas until the bad gas got burned up? Just one more area to rule out at least.
if mine were already a 440 I'd keep it mostly stock internally to save the block. At one point I was going the 440 stroker route in mine than started to appreciate the fact that the car had survived pretty much intact for OVER 50 YEARS and it would be a shame to change out motor, trans & rear...
