Pulled and installed many engines over the years.
A iron intake , I would feel better about. The bolts and the plate never bothered me.

Wizard products sell a mist on wipe off protectant for a flat paint finish.
My 67 hood is SEM hot rod black , I use the wizard product to protect from tree sap and bird crap.
The SEM should be fine on its own I just like the extra protection.

Glad it's going good, My big toe arthritis was crazy, there is zero in the rest of that foot. Just that one joint.
Doc figured I had hurt it in the past.
Just finished the 6 wk mark and my foot is at least back to 75 % .
The great thing is no more arthritis pain.
I'm wearing my shoe for the past week and working the foot a little more but being careful at the same time.
It's has all worked out good for me.

I have to ask are you sure you have all the air bled out of he system ?
With the cap off at idle are you seeing a good return flow ?
Are the hoses new ? Could have a pressure hose collapsing or chunks of return hose in the sector ?
Possible worn parts in both those pumps.
