    The Service manual gives you a start. Naturally you will have to advance the timing to get it started. He said that his problem was getting it to run. Also has the actual tdc mark on the balancer been verified ? Verifying tdc would be the first thing to do.

    Very unlikely to "soak the crank" Use a windage tray and keep the oil pick-up on the bottom of whatever size pan you use. Like a swimming pool. It has a deep end and a shallow end but the top is the same level.
