Would I be better off with 7290s and a 7290 to 7260 u-joint for the rear instead of trying to mess with the pinion yoke? I would be able to switch over to all 7290s at some point when I get around to disassbling the entire rear end to do a disc brake conversion.
If I did go for the 1350s, the...
I'm heading towards a drivetrian update in my 72 Road Runner. 500hp small block, A518 transmission and a new driveshaft. My current rear is a 9.25 with 7260 u joint. I was planning to just do 1350 u-joints across the board and find a conversion u-joint from 1350 to 7260 for the stock pinion for...
I am planning to swap a A518 transmission in for the A904 in my 1972 Road Runner. I'm sticking with a small block and have a 9-1/4 rear end. Does anyone know the drive shaft length for this combination?
I'm considering just measuring the current drive shaft and subtracting the difference in...
I have nearly the same issue happening on my 72 this past week. My gauge usually sat on C and only ever crept up once while driving in 100°/38° heat with the AC on. This week it was hovering over H driving in the rain at 65°/18°.
The infrared thermometer is a great tool. I wasn't sure to trust...
So I got it all slamed back together. I looked at the 1974 manual for the procedure and low and behold it's totally different than the 1972. So I just used the 74 procedure because it ecoed what a lot of people were saying about not torquing.
74 Procedure:Torque the nut to 20 ft-lb to seat the...
Yep I would not use an old cup with a new cone so the whole old set went back in on the inners. I'm just confused on the size now. The Timkins are 2.328 od and the rotor is 2.35ID. I got Timkin Set 6. Is there a different cup to use on mopars?
I got around to cleaing and packing all the bearings last night. Things that I learned are the Timkin inner bearings have the wrong size outer race (too small) so I had to reuse what I had. Once cleaned up I could spin the bearings up freely with a compressed air nozzle. I did the 72 FSM...
Pulled the passenger side tire off and got .012 end play. Pulled the outer bearing and cleaned it up. No signs of ware on the race or rollers, but is does not spinning nicely, so everything is getting replaced with Timken bearing . How do I best get the outer races out without marring ou the...
I am out of ideas with this. On my dad's '74 Cuda, the brakes will stay on when you press the peddle. You have to lift up the peddle with your foot to get it to come off. Parked at idle the peddle hangs up a little so that the lights are on, but going down the road it keeps them on enough that...
Thanks. I usually over prepair for stuff. I watch a few videos and pull out my FSM, my 1969 copy of auto mechanics fundamentals, the Haynes manual and bother my dad who used to do this all the time and did this car originally.
I'm planning to wash them in degrease, and flush with mineral spirits...
Thanks that basically the direction I was going in. I'm still debating on if I should wait on the alignment before or after I mess with the bearings.
Do you guys have a recommendation for grease? I remember Mopar Action had a specific recommendation but I can't remember what that was.
I took my Road Runner in for new front tires before getting the front end realigned. The tires were shot because I seem to have too much camber diled in. While at the shop the tech pointed out some endplay in the front wheel bearings and suggested I look at if I needed new bearings before the...
Not totally apples to apples, but I redid these for my 72... Masonite from one of the box stores (I think Home Depot had the right texture on the back to match the OEM pannel). I used a 3M adhesive specifficly for auto vinyl and a box of short, flat head machine screws to reattach the upper...
This is my own design for the system, but it might give you an idea on layout. Make sure you have enough clipping points if you are running hard lines- mine cracked at a brazed joint and I am going to have to repair it before the summer.
Well my 'just make it work' solution was to drill and tap a hole in the arm for a 8-32 set screw and tighten that down against the spline as much as possible. We will see how that holds up.
My wiper system has decided to self destruct, (which is a problem since the '72 SSP my preferred daily driver over the late model Ram). Long story short- the driver's arm and pivot splines are toast. I don't want to pay out the nose on ebay for another set that might also be worn out so I was...
You could try foil tape but it is not robust. I would do some homework and see what 3M has to offer on their OEM side of products. Something similar was probably used to cover the original plastic parts.
This site seems to have a decent selection of chrome tapes. I have not used them so I'm not...
Anyone know where to get one of these clips or have an alternative? I scored the three spoke wheel I have wanted for the car this weekend and it only had two clips.
Thats the same issue as my 72 Satellite with oe panels. I have considered trying a chrome strip tape, but Im not convinced it wont just peel up and make things look worse.
