Has any one had issue with the OEM valve covers leaking on the 440Sourceheads? I've tried a few different fixes with no luck. I saw a post in the past about this but can not recall all the details.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll let her know that they aren't very desirable. Her husband passed away and she is just trying to get rid of the last few things.
...88-90 cc's, not the 75 or so that Mopar says they are (they lied).
Clean the mouse turds out of the 906s, and get a estimate to freshen them up/valve job. I'm betting the 440sourceheads will start looking pretty good. There are other inexpensive aluminum heads too, sidewinder come to mind.
Wait for speedmasters black friday sale, and buy a pair of cnc heads bare, and go from there. $1400 budget for sbm heads is pretty small. You could get decent sbc heads for that price.
Sidewinder or 440source would be alternates.
If you REALLY want it to run like it should...... save your...
440source,sidewinder,Edelbrock E street, etc. for a typical flat tappet hot rod type build.
If your heads are ready to go then use them unless you have cash to burn. If they need reworking then I would consider upgrading.
Heads up! Looked at the new products listed on the 440source website and bought the (new to me) thicker .083"
6 quart oil pan =7quarts with filter. Anyone else buy one? Or is this oil pan old news ?
Some goodies arrived from 440Source this week. Pair of Stealth heads. I added the competition valve job along with the 10 degree locks and retainers. Stainless roller rockers, balancer, and aluminum water pump.
Interestingly the cylinder heads don't match.
One is 2843906 and the other is 2843908. I'm not sure what the difference is but they are probably going to the scrap heap. From what I see on the internet the resale value is minimal at best.
Still waiting on comments concerning aluminum heads...
If you can get a ready to run set of later heads,906/346/452, that don't need redoing then you can save money there. Maybe a set of valve springs and go.Otherwise 440source or sidewinder heads will be far ahead in HP and have a smaller combustion chamber for easier compression AND less prone to...
Were the JE pistons custom, and if they were, how much did they run you and did you order any trick deals with em, or just pretty standard pistons?
Also did you use a roller or flat tappet cam?
I don’t really have a question here but just posting for the group info. When building my sons car a few years ago the one thing I really did not put a bunch of research into was the starter, because I did not think I needed too. I was getting a bunch of parts from 440Source and just went...
It should be ok. They can be removed by having bronze guides installed. The cut all that old guide out usually and press in the new bronze guides. How loose are the valves in the guides? A new set of trick flows or 440sourceheads would solve the problem permanently.
yeah. Was going there was a magical solution, but kinda knew that’s where things were headed.
Might be a good time to figure out what I want out of the motor (besides just to run!).
I suspect it has more cam than the heads can use. It has a set of 452 heads that had about $1500 of work done on...
I am going through my 67 HP 383 - 67 Satellite 383 refresh - questions/advice. It was rebuilt previously and bored 30 over. Teardown after 35 yrs and 30k miles revealed that the previous machine shop did some questionable work, particularly on the heads and crank. The build also had low...
Thanks for reply. I'm not sure what brand the headers are, but the rt side have been cut and rewarded by an exhaust shop to fit the engine bay.
Headers are standard block hugger, not sure of brand. At 21.00 minutes, shows the modifications to make them fit, done by the guy who originally did...
Another way to go would be if he had them do everything to the block and assemble the engine the labor would be $1684
He furnished the parts I would use :
440Source 415 stroker kit and Stealth heads $4100
Listed Comp cam & lifters and Harland Sharp roller rockers $2062
Timing chain listed, cam...
$5k sounds low, but depends on machine shop costs in your area - they are expensive here.
I am redoing my previously rebuilt 383 now. R&R pistons. Block already bored 0.030, but needs honed for new pistons. Crank already cut 10/10 will get balanced and polished. Valve job and chamber equalizing...
I'd calculate the compression ratio (requires measurements) for both the 906s, and some 440source stealth heads. TF are real nice, not necessary for a driver. I'd probably not put any money into 906s.
If it's too high for pump gas, I'd wack off the domes (assuming solid dome) and rebalance...
good information thanks. not a big fan of comp stuff, had one fail break in and a buddy of mine had one run grooves in his lifters after a year. sounds like yours is a bit older though so i bet qc was better back then. i've got manual brakes/ and it's a stick so im not super limited on cam...
