I bought directly from 440source. They were assembled heads. Car runs much better. The engine had what were presumably the factory steel shim type gaskets. Between leaky valve seals and presumably bad valve sealing the car did not want to idle very well with the original heads. Its much...
...weeks and would like to make at least 1hp per cube. Stock 346 heads for now, I have headers but want to use HP manifolds for ease, 440sourceheads next year. The smaller CC of those heads are being considered and would like to keep it under 9.5:1 with the 440sourceheads. I get the stock...
I think you can get close enough to make you happy doing what you said you are willing to do. 451 flat top stroker from 440Source, ported Stealth heads, 440Source can probably tell you which of their cams to use with stock rockers. (I hate stock rockers, but I guess they will work for you.)...
...want some more compression.
Just the flow increase alone will make more power everywhere. Just don't over cam it. I just pulled an 8.5-1 440 with the Comp XE274 out of my Duster. Changed from stock 452 heads to cnc ported 440sourceheads I had lying around and it was a night and day...
I did 440Source Stealth aluminum heads with a tunnel ram on a 383, 4 speed car.
Extremely drivable, drive it all the time, mounds of torque for reasonable $.
I'd get some edelbrock small chamber E-Street heads, or maybe 440source stealth heads. The better airflow and lighter weight will really help.
Then just a bunch of tuning before deciding on the next change.
You'll get opinions on this that you may not like.
Iron heads appeal to two types of people. CHEAP dudes and guys that are obligated to use them for specific racing classes.
If someone is willing to pay even $100 for these heads, I'd be surprised. They are not rare and not hard to find. They are...
I think the 452's is the right answer for you.
If you really want aluminum heads (they'll make more power than stock 452's, for sure) I'd revert to the 440source stealth.
In your research, study which heads have raised exhaust ports. Would be a nightmare for your situation.
470 stroker kit from 440source, Edelbrock performer rpm heads, full roller engine, Edelbrock performer rpm intake, Edelbrock AVS2 850cfm carb, TTI headers, FBO complete ignition set up ( coil, ignition module, distributor) I have to look up cam specs
I have a cast crank 76 440 in my 63. The PO had installed the very heavy speedpro 6 pack pistons I left them and installed a set of 440source CNC Stealth heads, Isky 292 mega cam,RPM intake, Holley 750 double pumper, and Doug’s D452 headers. 3k converter and 373 gears. I’m very pleased with the...
...intake, 247 exhaust at .050 on a 110 center lobe. It will have around 10 to 10 1/2 compression. It had 10 to one compression with 440sourceheads. The last engine I had in it had so much cam that the brakes would go out now and then. Or would an hydraulic cam be better? Any info I can get...
What changes for a hyd roller cam with 440Sourceheads (other than hyd roller springs)? You say you would like to stay away from the needle bearing roller rockers. What's wrong with the 440Source stainless, bushed roller rockers? I think they look great. (And the price is wonderful.) You only...
Spot on! A year ago .I started with bare block, factory crank and rods for a 440. After boring .030, 440Sourceheads, Hughes can, JE Pistons, Doug's headers, Performer RPM, and a dyno tuned Holley.....and some other items WITH machining and the build ....10k. Oh, that also included the dyno pulls.
Guys what is your go to Valve Cover gasket on a bigblock engine.
Mind you I run stock valve covers but on 440source aluminum heads.
I always use FelPro 1612 thick gaskets and a product that is really good for aluminum (Yama-Bond) or equivalent.
I was having good luck but not everytime...
The Edelbrock heads don't pose any issues for me in my '70 Charger. I have a buddy with a 69 Coronet and he has the Stealth heads from 440source. His clearance is similar to mine. The Stealth heads flow better than the iron heads and they are designed to look very similar. Both sets utilize...
