So for reference, here is was it was supposed to look like next to the original one I got. Just my luck that the replacement I received had the same issue and I lacked the prior knowledge to know what it was supposed to look like
Oddly enough it appears to mostly work even though it's too...
I spoke to the vendor and he confirmed that it's supposed to have the retaining ring. I must have gotten a damaged one. I think it's going to be too long though. I'll probably have call around. I found one, but it excludes b-body for '72. That may be the version I just bought.
I ordered a replacement latch and while deeper, it has the same issue. Both are missing the pressed in retainer ring shown at the 13:00 mark in the video below.
Is this something that can be purchased or sourced separately?
Here are the two latches. The larger is the repop.
I have procar seats in mine and the rails didn't fit at all. I had to hack them up and fab new mounts in place. That said, they work great now. My biggest challenge was getting the seat bottom low enough. I'm not a tall guy and my head was too close to the ceiling without taking out as much...
I got busy over the last few days so I just now had a chance to look into it more. I measured the depth of the latch and there's physically no way for the cylinder to go in deep enough to lock in place. Additionally, the locking tab is too wide to fit through the slot (see the first picture...
Yeah the old one I could just pull the cylinder out of the latch with a little bit of a tug. The new one is acting the same way. That's part of why I'm replacing it (and I didn't have a key for it). I'm going to get my calipers out tomorrow and measure to see if it's physically possible to...
Yeah, I found a video that gave me the procedure. However if you look at the last picture, you can see where the cylinder bottoms out in the latch. Even depressing the tab, the cylinder won't move any farther.
I'm trying to install a new lock on my 72 glove box. I know there's a tab that has to be depressed to lock the cylinder in to keep it from coming out, but it seems that the cylinder is too long. The same is true for the old lock. I can't push it in far enough to get the tab to engage...
It's been a while so I can't recall my cable sizes off hand but I believe I was conservative and went a little larger than necessary. A hot starter sounds plausible. I have a mini starter and TTI headers. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this combination. Perhaps I need to wrap my headers?
I have noticed that if I try to restart my engine immediately after driving it doesn't want to start. The starter isn't continuously turning the motor. It's almost as if I have a dead battery. The longer I wait the better it is. To me this indicates vapor lock. Would you guys agree? I...
I trimmed down the back of mine so it would sit lower. The tunnel is narrower than the modern challenger. It also allows you to use the side mounting holes. I installed some rivnuts in the tunnel at the front and into the bracket at the rear. The front was more difficult to figure out. I...
Ditto on what 70Chall440 said. He's been a big help on my build. Take a look at a couple build threads here on the forum. At the very least it'll give you some ideas. Also start putting together a budget. You don't want to get too far into it and then realize you don't have the funds to...
I like your shifter adapter. I need to redo mine. It's in a great position for shifting, but it hits cups in the cup holder. I can't quite decide how I want to fix it though. Raising it up higher will make it too high for my tastes. I might have to switch to a ball shifter, but I love the...
Ok, yeah those are the style that are on the canister side. I've managed to keep them mostly intact. I'm guessing the PO wasn't as careful with the ones on the tank.
Fair point, but there weren't any on the old tank and never had an issue. Plus they're just vents, so there shouldn't be any pressure, but obviously that's not the case.
So if you recall a few posts earlier I was having issues with my fuel vapor tank and my fuel tank puking gas. I ended up taking it off and just routing the lines into the fender with nothing on them. Today I filled the tank up (over 20 gallons) got home and it did the same thing. This time I...
