Where Greg & I are does still get temps down below freezing every year so you need at least some protection.... Through the years I have seen a few engines with cracked blocks due to freezing...
Does "Water Wetter" have anti-corrosion properties in it?
This engine was first started in Spring 2021. The inside of the thermostat housing has slight rust residue and it was new when I built the engine. I should have put anti freeze in it after break in but I got distracted and forgot.
...very important. Original fans seem to work the best. Haven't had much luck with electric fans in severe overheating problems. I tried waterwetter. It might help if you have a minor problem but I saw no positive results from it or any other of the snake oil magic fixes for severe problems...
...the timing alone. I then refilled the radiator with the drained fluid as it was installed only two weeks ago and had been treated with WaterWetter. I turned on the heater to high, pulled the car onto ramps, and ran it with the cap off. I ran it until the t-stat opened and I was then able to...
The Vancouver area is currently bone dry, we've had only a couple of rainy days in the past three months. We're on stage 2 water restrictions right now.
Have you tried using a bottle
or two of WaterWetter?
It helps lower temperatures by reducing or eliminating bubbles or vapor barrier that form on hot metal surfaces
by reducing the surface
tension of the radiator fluid.
Cheap fix if it works for you.
also a good idea for added protection to add a sacrificial zinc anode at the drain plug location since we've got dissimilar metals iron and aluminum in the mix here.

Been using WaterWetter in my 496" w aluminum radiator for about 2 yrs. 1st yr, everything looked normal. 2nd yr, same. Broke a pushrod a couple weeks ago so I decided it was a good time to pull the engine for some upgrades and when I drained the radiator it was rusty. I was running 50/50...
Funny...cars today all have electric fans and stay cool.
Waterwetter is useless with a properly functioning stat. If you need WW your cooling system isn't working properly.
I am not using waterwetter. I am using Evans Waterless, Griffin also sells it on their site. They said some coolants can turn the color of the inside the radiator.
...the rad is not keeping the engine cool, unless I'm driving at a constant 30mph+. Cold Case 26" with 1.25" tubes. Flowkooler pump. Waterwetter. Robert Shaw 180 stat. Derale 19" fan. Now do I believe the fresh air coming in will make a big difference? No, not huge, but something. If I'm doing...
Hey Ranger, waterwetter is...... corrosion inhibitors + dye + surfactant + water. The surfactant lowers the surface tension lower than water has on its own (the hype) which has the unwanted side effect of being very foamy....and foam doesn't cool well and is hard to pump
Nice. Adding the cheap sacrificial anode also would be good long term insurance.
I've been running my setup for around 3000 miles. How about you? I'm curious on long term effects of running the waterwetter with the aluminum. Not saying there's for sure any issue, but am curious.
please fact check, but I too at one time was going to use waterwetter, but then I had just bought a Griffin aluminum radiator and I thought I had read somewhere that waterwetter in an aluminum rad could cause long term trouble. Can anyone confirm if they have read something like this?
In my...
Some love and hate with electric fans and they work and not so much. When I had overheating hassles after motor rebuild, removing some iron from the block, found that some aftermarket shrouds can take one from bad to worse as the air turbulence cools everything but the motor. Then there’s the...
