For a street motor without power adders, the KB 236 or 237 are good choices. I have the 237's in my 440, with Sourceheads are about 10.3:1. The 236 has a raised pad for open chamber heads.
Just looked at Summit, ICON forged are about the same price as the KB's. I'm not sure on weight difference.
Hey guys, just looking for some feedback on an engine block I recently got back from the machine shop. I have been checking it over with a dial bore gauge and have noticed that it is looking like the piston to wall clearance is too tight. It is tight on the thrust faces of the walls though, I...
I currently have an Edelbrock Performer 383 intake and am considering swapping to a RPM Air Gap. My engine is a 383 stroked to 496 ci with 440source kit, Edelbrock RPM heads (60925), Comp cam 230/236 .541/.537 lift (23-711-9), Holley Street Avenger 770 cfm.
I can’t find any performance numbers...
I used Ohio Crankshaft's kit (probably before 440Source was around) with no regrets. Use the smallest overbore you can, it makes for stronger cylinder walls/better ring seal. RPM heads. Complete Hughes valvetrain (solid) and my 6 Pack induction. 10.6:1 CR, Dougs headers with 3" exhaust-X-pipe...
You misunderstood. I have non raised port heads (Source440 Stealth) and 2 1/8 440-218 TTI step headers and am sure this mismatch is contributing if not the entire reason I am having header/starter clearance problems.
You said you wanted a little more cam. Ok the old Mopar P4120235 or P5007697 (or something like that) would be good. That is a stock Street Hemi grind. .484" lift 241 duration. Simple, friendly and easy. If your heads need anything to speak of, and they probably will, I would buy new stealth...
...mid 230's low 240's max for low rpm you're looking for. For lift with those heads, you might as well not go lower than .500 (imho). 440Sourceheads flow well, so use them. Then it's about LOA and centerline... May want to lean more toward the 110 LOA and 106 CL numbers.
An example could be...
For a "mild street pump gas engine", I'd use the stealths, or put .120 cometics under the b1/bs. (Maybe .090s . Whatever it takes to get it to low 10 cr)
I have gathered the parts for another 512" stroker. Going the 4.375" bore size as the block bores did not clean up at 0.040" over.
This is being built as a mild street pump gas engine, so I'm using the 27cc dish pistons. The end compression ratio will depend on the cylinder heads I use.
The...
The machine work to fit billet main caps is really expensive, and I think over kill at 600 HP. Check what your machine shop charges to fit the main caps to the block.
Do use main studs. With the studs, the mains might need align honed, but that us way less expensive than align boring...
That should be a very good block. Here is some info from 440source. You can see more by going to the 440source website.
For most applications, this block was used for their "Heavy duty truck or industrial 413" engine. This is the setup with the huge (5 bolt) water pump and housing and...
On my 440sourceheads the cover rail casting is not located in the right place, in the corner its off a little so you only get the edge of the gasket touching the head. you need to glue the gasket in place and let it set up before putting the cover on. use whatever silicone you like. but you...
Thanks for the input guys. I've decided to keep MAXIMVS and do a few mods, keep in mind that the car is NOT an original max wedge car:
- Do a new engine with lower compression, about 10:1, 440source 500 CID stroker kit on a 440 RB base. The old high compression engine will be sold complete...
I'm personally not a fan of 383s and don't get why anyone would chose to use one save for a numbers-matching deal. I certainly wouldn't put one in favor of any 340 nor spend a dime to rebuild one to stock specs.
Based on my own direct experience, I had a basically stock one in a '68 Coronet 4...
