As I recall it is not recommended to use wear hardened items over again on different materials, perhaps that was a issue with the excessive wear? I have done that myself but, I spun the push rods in my drill press and sanded the tips to allow a break in surface for the new interface conditions...
Can you tell us the brand of push rod? You verified oil to the top end when prelubing? You did prelube? Any difference in radius of the balls and sockets? Just some topics for thought.

I used a Aeromotive 20 gallon cell in my 65. I bent up a 18 gauge leveler/floor support to place the cell on and had 2 SS straps bent to retain the cell. The base was welded to the floor.

You can add a dipstick to that pan. Weld in another bung and use a 3/8" compression street 90 x (male pipe thread)-screw into bung and mark a dipstick at your desired level.

Is that a Fel-Pro number? A block of soft/sponge rubber will absorb those crack causing harmonics. Wrap it like the factory did with the fiberglass batt. I cannot address the difference in gaskets though.

I just posted the notice because it popped up in my e-mail and I thought I would pass it on. I use and recommend Mopar ATF+4 for a superior Dexron replacement in all stock and many modified uses.

Pull off the valve body and air pressure test the front clutch or use the test ports (1/8"), pipe plugs with a 300# gauge for pressure amount. FSM will have procedure and OEM specs.
