i didn't put 12 volts to FLD at the alternator, i just measured it at 3.5 volts.
the battery wire at the alternator was 11.5 ish, the same as the batt wire at the VR
ok, here are my results, vehicle running, 12.25.volts from post to post at the battery, 11.5 volts at the battery terminal at the voltage regulator, 3.5 volts at the FLD side of the voltage regulator and at the FLD terminal of the alternator. i grounded the second FLD terminal of the alternator...
this is making sense now, my belvedere has the solid state regulator and has both FLD excited, his satellite has the points style and one FLD should be grounded.
i will ground 1 FLD, jump the VR with the connections in place and see if it charges, does that sound proper?
the fire was in the VR...
is there any visual way to tell which voltage regulator is installed, points vs electronic?
do i leave the regulator connections in place while i temporarily jump across the connections? or disconnect the leads and jump the two leads?
what will happen if i excite the second FLD connector and...
Hey team, i installed a new wiring harness, the new harness came with one FLD connection for the alternator, it fired right up but still isn't charging, i grounded the second FLD connection and it still doesn't charge, do i need to jump the 2 FLD connections? my 67 belvedere has both FLD...
that looks even better but its not in stock, do you know of anyone else who might have that same harness?
what about the first piece of advice i got about grounding the second fld contact on the alternator, i do see talk around that point but not sure his engine fire could have undone that...
i didn't see the modified version, just BB and SB, do they sell it? do you have a link for the electronic VR? pretty sure he would like to go with a better solution.
Thanks again
Henry
Thank you, that looks good, i will run it by him, that one says Stock Style Breaker Points, i didnt see any points in the distro, its a pickup coil, will that harness still work?
Thanks again
Henry
Hey Team, A friend of mine who has a 67 satellite had a small engine fire and i replaced a few damaged items like plug wires, fuel hoses, plastic accelerator pump arm etc, we got the car running safely again but now it doesn't charge, i have a 67 Belvedere but mine has an internal regulator...
yes it's working ok, just wanted to freshen things up, what i thought was an old rusty working ignition module, is an old rusty voltage regulator, guess I'm just trying to swap things out before they fail.
is it common to swap out the external regulator setup to an alternator with a built in...
ok, i see now that its the voltage regulator in the pic, looks a little like an ign. module, i thought the alternator had a built in regulator, so it looks like the distro has been swapped, anything i can do to improve ignition performance? what should i be gapping my plugs at? thx!
Hey Folks, i am looking into replacing my ignition module to increase performance on my 67 belvedere, can someone tell about what i have now, i don't see a ballast resistor, and the module doesn't have the little raised part and heatsink like all the others i see online, also does the...
