Here’s a clip taken immediately after firing it up for cam break-in. No shifter boot so a bit of smoke but it went away quickly. Oh, notice the oilpressure
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too - at cold start, I would want as minimum friction as possible. But, the shop recommended this combo to increase oilpressure. I was thinking 'if' I did run the straight 40w, then no Lucas additive as the 40w here in PA should be thick enough. But, again...
No, there is NOT 100 psi there. Very little pressure actually, just crankcase blowby pressure. See the 2 holes in the back of the cam brg? That allows the oil to flow back into the pan so there is nopressure build up.
Dan,
Are you sure the leak was from the cam plug? Sil should have sealed it...
Nope. Have you ever actually installed a mech oilpressure gauge ? On your, or a customers, car ? I'd like to know where vibration will cause the copper line to crack and break. I wonder if you know what to do to avoid that condition.
If you do the math the side clearance isn't the restriction of oil exit flow at the rod bearing. It's the rod bearing to crank clearance. I've never talked to anybody that ran wide side clearance where it caused an issue.

This question is pertaining to my last about distance from the oil pan floor, so if the oil pump pick up is too close to the oil pan sump floor, can it suck it up to a certain degree?
I ask this because both my old pick up and new one supplied with the deep sump 7 quart pan are hanging a 1/2...
This is a Used OilPressure Gauge Sending Unit. It is for
a oilpressure gauge, not a idiot light. I can no longer
remember what year or model this one came out of, but I'm
sure it worked or I wouldn't have saved it. $15.00. Local
pickup, or buyer pays shipping.
Hey guys,
I just got a "new" to me 1968 Charger with a "rebuilt" 383. Come to find out the guy I got it from had 0 idea on how to build the car and did a lot of things very half assed.
The oilpressure gauge in the car doesn't work so hooked a mechanical gauge to it. I think the car sat for...
To add more cooking oil to the fire, here's another mention. LOL. I can see this whole thing turning into a food for thought fight. LOL.
NONONO!!!!! 1/4" is way too tight. Please don't set it to that.
3/8" min. 1/2" max. I shoot for 7/16"
sure 1/8", 1/4" etc will work, but here's what...
No, not for a second, but Nick seemed to imply he has seen it before and the downsides were not observed nor obvious, and why I thought the question was worth asking.
I "thought" side clearance played a major role in oil flow/pressure operating aspects.
Make sure you have the blue o ring that seals the pickup tube to the actual pump. I work at a dealer and have seen many times where the o ring has been overlooked and nooilpressure
The handset (aka the oilpressure sender connected to the ECU harness) is plumbed into the/a oil port in the front the block where the original sending unit was (I believe). I also have a manual gauge plumbed into the return line from the oil filter which showed a slight bit of oil but no...
...with a mechanical gauge... doesn't knock and I've been waiting for it to seize up for 35 years! 2 weeks ago on our way to the Wasaga Beach car show my Wife called out on the 2 ways, "I have nooilpressure" and before I could reply the Son did and said "so what else is new, is it knockin' Mom".
The one that gets pressed in under the main cap is a hidden one that is easier to miss because you don't really see it. That one causes near complete loss of oilpressure. The screw-in one near the distributor I missed caused lower oilpressure everywhere, but most notably in the left side...
I think you'd just have 2 forms of oil pick up
& with both sucking, neither one of them would have enough volume or pressure
taking away from each other, I'd think a single pump vein isn't big enough
to supply them both
now if you could somehow double it,
one feeding each, maybe
(like a 2 stage...
Car is all original and the dash harness is in really good original condition, no splicing or anything. As mentioned, the dimmer switch was bought from a mopar guy who rebuilds them and it sat in my drawer for over a year while I worked on the metal. It’s dimming the dome and only dash light...
I just put 10w-30 in my 1969 383. I’m not sure what oil was in it before but I didn’t seem to have any issues. I hooked a mechanical gauge up and the line filled with oil and held 75 at cold temps. However, when the engine is cold now at idle I hold 28 pounds and the oil line to the gauge won’t...
