    BB Engine question

I did the 440 source on my 400, basically same block as your 383. Everything fits and bolts up like original but better flow and chamber shape as well as saving a bunch of weight. They are called stealth heads cause if you paint them the look original. You also get the hardened valve seats.

    1966 383 street build

good information thanks. not a big fan of comp stuff, had one fail break in and a buddy of mine had one run grooves in his lifters after a year. sounds like yours is a bit older though so i bet qc was better back then. i've got manual brakes/ and it's a stick so im not super limited on cam...

    67 Satellite 383 refresh - questions/advice

Christmas came early! Just received the Stealth aluminum heads I ordered from 440 Source. Haven't fully unpacked and inspected them, but the sure look pretty in the box! We've been busy getting everything ready to have friends over for Easter tomorrow so progress has been a little slow. I've...

    Trick flow 240 rabbit hole

Thank you Rick, I very much enjoy and learn from you, Joe, and Ed's videos. I own a Vintage BMW motorcycle shop, and specialize in rebuilding those heads, but am ignorant on my Mopar, and really appreciate your input, and gladly will change my direction. I did 31 years in the Army, so "big...

    Machine Shop Costs, 440 Build

...Install cam bearings and freeze plugs $750 total It makes no sense to dump a bunch of money into old, junk heads. Paint a set of 440 Source heads orange and upgrade springs and retainers if needed. Same goes with connecting rods. Spend a few bucks more and buy some new ones. That piece of...

    543 Stroker intake manifold reccomendation

I ran a 543 stroker in my Challenger. It had an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake port matched to my heads. I ran 440 Source aluminum heads. Good torque, made peak HP I think at 5600 RPM and made 615 HP / 651 ft/lbs of torque on the dyno. A good "grunt" motor!

    Requesting cam choice recommendations/insight

I built a 512 using a 400 block and trick flow 240 heads and went with 440 source hyd roller with 600 lift and 3.55 gear and 28 inch tall tire. Mine is auto trans and is a very manageable combo for a street only car. Has tons of TQ and others that built the same combo had dyno numbers in the 600...

    67 Satellite 383 refresh - questions/advice

Maybe have the heads checked over? For what it cost to redo the valve job and throw some 1.74 exhaust valves in there you could likely buy a set of 440 source aluminum heads and paint them engine color. Not suggesting that if you don't want more power but food for thought. Aluminum intake...

    Rebuilding a 400.

The major proble. I see is with your budget. I think it can be done, depending on machining costs, and how bad the heads are. Like others have said, nothing wrong with a 400 except really low compression. IQ52 has engine builds on here that overcome that, but he is a pro. Frankly, I would not...

383/450 Stoker Build for Power, Longevity, and Reliability?

You'll be fine with a 451 out of a 383. More miles than you'll ever put on it. I think the basics of that Hot Rod article are fine except the compression ratio is not good for California. - 9.5 to 9.7 to 1 compression. California 91 octane is not as good as the 93 octane 49-state gas they ran...

Looking for opinions on what to do (RV 440 Build Options)

Background: 1973 Plymouth Satellite, originally a 318/904 car, big block swapped last year with an RV 440/727 Auto. Intended for street driving, will never see the track. Been chasing improvements over the last 12 months, so far: 78 RV Motor, RV had 80k miles. Appears to have at least one...

    Hydraulic Cam suggestions

Budget wise, If the 346 heads have the original valve springs then you might want to get a set of 440 source valve springs they use on the stealth heads for $50 a set. Using a mild cam around 215 to 220 @ 0.050" makes things easier if the car is not setup with a high stall converter, also nicer...

    Rebuilding a 400.

...over which let me use 440 pistons.. Gave me a huge selection and allowed me to raise my compression ratio from the basement. Put on 440 source heads which increased flow and lightened the front of the car by a good 50 lbs. I used a Performer rpm intake to help flow and lightened the front...

440 Source vs Hughes stroker kit

Hi guys I've decided to spend a bit of money on this dust collector I have in the shed (69 Coronet-440 6 pack). So I'm starting with the engine as it needs a full rebuild and I like either 440 source or Hughes stroker kits. I'm leaning more towards 440 source due to a lot of positive feedback...

No more high compression street builds for me

My 505 is toast. 2 broke pistons and the rest scored. How did it happen? I dont know yet. It denotated horribly. so what can cause that? Too much timing? Running lean? Failing fuel pump, clogged carb? Bad gas? This engine has a 440 Source 440-512-5060 kit in it. PP240 heads. That should put it...

    67 Satellite 383 refresh - questions/advice

Thanks. Really hoping I don't need to replace the cam. I've read too many horror stories about modern cams and lifters failing. This cam has about 35k miles on it and looks to be in good condition. I decided to go with a set of 440 Source Stealth aluminum heads instead of putting that $ into...
