already posted on diagram. And yes, I’m pretty sure you can use the later amm onto the existant provision changing the face. Studs gaps is pretty much the same so no mods to the cluster… now diff stuff is if the A body amm is the same deepness than the 68-70 B body. Maybe will need to trim out...
Im thinking I should finally buy an Amp Clamp, for my little DVOM.. Wonder how many AMPS these reman alternators actually put out?! It may say "55" "60" "70 amp" on a lable or website, but hell could be pushing 100+ ?! Hate to think of that..
That would have been a next question, who to trust...
Yes, the rest of his original bypass is still done, only changing the placement of the second fusible link. I really don't understand which way is better or safer, and why. I did the conventional MAD bypass on my Road Runner and his new recommendation on my Super Bee.
So, in regard to my discharge post a few posts ago -- I went out to the car this morning and I noticed that the ammeter was sitting on the slight left of zero that I thought was the discharge yesterday.
So, I made sure that my battery was disconnected, and it was. So, I connected the battery...
I just wanted to reply and say, that in my case, someone who clearly admits that I know nothing about electronics other than shadetree mechanic, it was finally nice to find an actual diagram from Plymouth that documents how to do the bypass. There have been many debates back and forth with...
Everything depends of nature of your resto. Some upgrades are adviced, like the bulkhead bypass or parallel path and alternator upgrade, and of course MANTENIENCE ( yes electricals needs a deep checking after 60 years of use and abuse, just like brakes, engine, body... ) but the ammeter bypass...
I converted mine to MSD atomic in 2015.
The atomic is connected directly to the battery. Atomic has the ability to do pulse width modulation on the fuel pump which helps a bit with noise and power draw.
I have electric fans as well (3) and my alternator goes through the ammeter.
I haven't had...
What is the best way to bypass the factory amp gauge on a 1969 with a Talley dash. I upgraded to a 100 amp alternator.I know it is common for factory amp gauge wire to burn up. I really do not want to pull out the gauge cluster. Can I dissconnet the wire off the post of my alternator. Then...
The fleet/bulkhead by-pass as been diagramed/discussed here many times over the years, a few examples here.
I’ve been by-passing the charging bulkhead connections since my time at the dealers way back when.
No reason you can’t run added loads (including EFI) and retain the original ammeter as...
just adding info... this would be the TIPICAL ammeter external shunt wire diagram. Some cars got some other splices to feed around some other devices, but this would be the tipical basic configuration.
As everybody can see, STILL on these ammeters setup, EVERYTHING is still feeded from the alt...

Simply offering the OP my real experience and suggestions to head off any issues and frustrations. Been running this stuff for years in everything from 100 year old tractors designed to run on kerosene, model T's, muscle cars, and lawn mowers. Please share your results. Or be a sanctimonious...
So, a while back I upgraded my 67 Belvedere to HEI, and this weekend I'll finally get around to pulling the harness and removing all the unused wires from the old ignition. I've also been reading up on ammeter/bulkhead bypass and figure this would be a good time. Seems like there's a lot of...
bypass or parallel paths....a circuit cannot be bypassed and at the same time parallel (to what?)..be descriptive in terms of drawings, photographs and calculations to prove your point. The alt able to source 45-55 amps at iddle.....first, iddle is not a word and means nothing. The...
What was the solution? I attached my EFI to the drivers side of the Ballast, until I find a better location. I also need a separate location for the EFI Ignition.
I also converted my Alt to a Volts gauge and was going to connect it to the back of the fuse box to a switched connection, since I...
FOR SURE!!! He took the time to do it right! I've re-wired a lotta MoPars over the years, most owners that have the money don't wanna deal with it. Wondering what brand that dash harness is? Doesnt look like an M&H. Great lookin "Birdie"! And looks like he KEPT the AMMETER!! Big Kudos to the...
EXCELLENT SYNOPSIS.......but....you forgot to add: NGK spark plugs vs Champion vs AC vs Autolite vs E3 are best, manual transmission lubricant, DOT 5 vs DOT 3 brake fluid, best wax to use, best windshield wiper fluid, best beer to drink, nitrogen vs air in your tires, AND....whatever material...
I purchased a 4 light harness for my 72 Satty and couldn't be happier. I am running a wire from the alternator to the starter lug (ammeter bypass) so my harness was custom. Harness was very well made. Install was straight forward. I did have a question about my install because the instructions...
Thanks, but I can't go this route, already bought the alternator. I did buy 8 GA wire to the starter relay with a 12 GA fusible link. This was recommended for a 95 amp alternator.
Molested to me is these and calling it a “restoration”

One wire alternator
White face gauges
Hood blackout in white
Welded up box mufflers
Mini starter
