Hi Guys,
I think I have all my electrical gremlins sorted out thankfully. Now, things that are supposed to light do light when they are supposed to! Those #%$#$#&( LEDs that were in the dash; 5 of 8 were defective. I did find and install a new circuit board and checked all continuity to a...
This topic is a good read, thanks to all the contributors. I'll be going through this next spring. My '70 Charger had 195-75-14's on it when I bought it in 1986, and upgrading to 255-60-15's in the rear and 205-70-14's in the front made a very noticeable difference. I now have Cooper Cobra...
More progress this weekend. Busted out the wire wheels and sand paper and got to cleaning up the old hardware I am reusing. I've tried a bunch of different stuff over the years and honestly just painting the exposed surfaces black seems to be the easiest to live with. Oiling and heating the...
Not alot done after the engine and K-member install.
I did install the torsionbars and today I did install the Z-bar for the clutch.
I bought this kit some time ago.
But then remembered that I had this kit too.
So using the Mopar Performance kit, the Z-bar went in nicely.
For the sharp eyed...
Well for anyone that cares to know or is following along the post, the final results of these (Summit?) Headers, I could not remove the starter in one piece.
I disassembled it inside the header into 3 pieces.
I couldn’t install the new 440 Source mini starter either.
Tried from below, tried...
I don't do the weld the washer, i get the rubber out then use a sawzall and cut the outer shell enough length wise in 2-3 spots then collapse it with a hammer/chisel.. doesn't take long. And i trust the old stamped arms more than aftermarket ones.. i'm paranoid though :) clean those holes well...
The key is the orientation of the tab which the adjuster screw pushes upwards against.
When you back off the screw make sure the tab with the counter sink hole rotates downward.
If it doesn't then with the torsionbar removed pry it down it should never go below the lowest surface of the stamped...
I've been modifying cars since the 60's. Did a tri carb manifold install on my buddies '56 Chevy when I was 15. Helped my brother with a SBC install into a Pagan Gold '52 MGTD before that.
My last project was a '56 F100. 4" chop, shortened 100" wheelbase, B body torsionbar suspension, blown...
Just to be clear, unsprung weight reduction of a TB vs Coil over is correct, but it is only one of, but not the only one of TB's positives, IMO. Mopar TB's do have negatives. I agree on the 2 or 3" single shear issue with TR mounting on the R&P set-ups, but also chuckle at those that think...
You really should have the upper and lower control arms and spindles assembled prior to installing the torsionbars. You will want the upper and lower control arm as an assembly to be at full drop. At this point you should be able to slide the torsionbar in. In some cases, you may need to raise...
A while ago I was asking questions about torsionbar adjusters and came away with the conclusion that the ones I installed when I swapped the torsionbars and rebuilt the LCAs were junk. They went partially in and then refused to turn any more. So, I bought a new set which I went to install...
Put it together like a pro ....
ASSEMBLY SEQUENCE:
(some variation with different body types)
(from bare painted body shell)
Spray radiator saddle blackout
Rocker panel pinchweld blackout (if applicable)
Front frame rail side blackout (if applicable)
1. trunk weatherstrip
2. body rubber...
Does this look correct? The torsionbar adjustors are set to what they were on the factory suspension. I wasn't expecting the upper bump stops to be mashed down. These are 1/4" taller than the factory upper bump stops, but still . . .
Thanks for posting list.
Out of curiosity is this your assembly procedure or a factory one?
Just wondering if there is a known list of assembly plant line procedures?
IE,work station #1 preformed this duty.
Work station # 2 preformed this duty? Etc,etc. on down to completion?
My first headers may have been BlackJacks....I had a 76 Camaro with a 350 and automatic. Later I swapped in shorty headers and a 4 speed. The header swaps in that car were pretty easy.
Mopars though?
The damn steering linkage, shifter linkage, starter and torsionbars make header...
I also installed these, I think they work very well.
Drilling the holes perfectly for the bushings in the rear to be able to fit was a pain indeed.
I found that after some months of driving, the holes for the bushings in the rear started to elongate, so I welded them, and the connectors worked...
So I was finally able to get everything apart on the passenger side. even replaced the lower control arm bushing which was a whole ordeal. really not looking forward to doing it again on the drivers side. But now that I've started re-assembling the passenger side I've run into a new issue. The...
