They are original, not china knockoffs. They came off of a 1968 440,
but will work on many big block Mopar engines. They are in good

You "can" just run it through a switch, but it will sound anemic and possibly burn out the switch. Using a relay gives full juice to the horn, without running all that juice through the (likely Chinesium plastic) switch.
