Another one of my stories closely related to this comment. Back in the late 70's I bought a really nice 73 2 dr Chrysler New Yorker Brougham with a transplanted 383-2 engine. It didn't run, owner said he thought there was a hole in a piston. I started getting ready to pull the engine and I...
I don't think the inquiry was vague. My reply was meant to infer that the correct amount of oil actually in the sump supercedes what a measuring stick might indicate.
That will come out. What I would do is clan the threads with a wire brush. Soak it good with a rust penetrating oil for a few days. Then put some good heat on the cast iron. Pipe wrench to twist off.
Might not be easy, but guarantee I would get it off.
Guys zinc is your last line of defense. If you’re worried using up the zinc in your oil you need better oil. Search out the oil with the highest psi oil film thats what matters first. As to zinc additives. Your oil filter filtering your zinc additives is a null point. If you’re using a good oil...
This is a OEM 1970's Twist On Oil Filler Cap. It is original,
not a china knockoff, and is in decent condition, just needs a
cleanup and repaint. I can no longer remember for sure what engine
this came off of, but I believe it will work on small and big blocks.
$15.00. Local pickup, or buyer...
What are you using for oil filters for the 1972 440? I am using the Wix 51068 which is the long filter that is difficult to get out. Is anyone using a "shorty" filter? What's the opinion on the Wix?
Thanks for any input.
Going through the Hemi engine in a car that I bought earlier this year. The oil pump is a HI Volume, but do not know what brand, only numbers on it are USA and 18. The rotors are rough from debris passing. What Melling pump should I get? The HV or HP? This is a street car, roller cam...
Well, despite all better judgements in me for building a small block stroker or a 440 I snapped on a complete aside from carb 1970 383 magnum out of a 1970 roadrunner. Hey, it was 300$ and it was a impulse buy what can I say. Thing still has oil in it and "ran when pulled". Haven't even put a...
Funny how that works they say they are garbage but mine have all outlasted the other brands and I’ve been well satisfied .. My rare dealer services though have been lack luster. I wonder how many $$ flow to various reporting companies to make their product better than others. Look at Ford they...
This is what a poly looks like with the timing cover off - the same as an LA. Replacing it with the sump in place was a pain but doable. I'd replace the crankshaft oil seal while you are there.
I recently had my car at a garage for a leaking oil pan gasket. Later I realized the dip stick for the oil was missing it used to be orange and I thought longer but the readings were correct. I have a 1971 Plymouth 440 Super commando. The garage says they don't have it! I ordered a new one thru...
The only differences between a B and a RB is deck height and distributor hole. The oil pan rails timing cover and rear seal are same on B and RB's. Don't think oil pump drive is difficult. Tell what is else is different?
Pump drive failure is usually connected to crap seizing up the pump. From my experiences. It would have to be a pretty soft drive for it to fail from turning a pump IMO
Has anyone encountered any problems with oil temps using the 45 deg adapter on a 6.4 swap due to lack of an oil cooler?
I have a 45 deg filter adapter ready to be installed but I’m now considering getting the 90 deg adapter with oil cooler fittings.
I assume the 6.4 came with a cooler from...
My 65 Satellite has a 413 bored out to 426 CI. Street Wedge, rebuilt with hardened seats, etc. What would you choose for a new oil filter, and oil too?
Do what I do. I was given a couple cases of oil when a friend sold his jet boat and didn't need it any more. I'm determined to use it. So I throw in one quart per oil change on the street/strip cars (8qt cap), and the diesel trucks.(10-14qt cap)
Straight 50wt. 20 quarts to use up...... thick...
