...frame was down, I took the bolts out, pulled the box out, then pulled the frame out. If you decide to go with a new unit, go either with the Borgeson from BAC[ Peter is one of our sponsors on the forum] or Lares like I did. The Lares is new and a direct replacement for the oe unit. However...
on my install i find the Borgeson coupler is more forgiving with the slight angle and I use lucas power steering fluid and a derale cooler with no problems, 4 years since install.
to see if it's the Borgeson box itself or the pump (which may have worn out due to the Borgeson), have the car running and place a tire iron contacting the box while you lower your ear close to the upper end of the tire iron. Then have an assistant turn the steering wheel to confirm if the noise...
Possible.. mine aren't the original bolts, just ones that fit. i think i can get under there tomorrow with a flashlight and see inside the mount if any are bottoming out, didn't think of that
...a little, not a big thing but would rather have it solid..
I was curious if the factory used bolts with shoulders or just threads all the way up? I could see shoulder bolts taking up the slack in the holes on the box, mine are just threads..
Don't think it matters but it's a borgeson unit..
Rad, can you show how you mounted your cooler? I saw Derale has a 4 row cooler that's like $45.. but no mount on it. I have only driven my car a few times with the borgeson setup but man that pump gets hot.... I spend all my time above 2600-3000 though
...there be an adjustment screw if there were no need for it?
I may have it wrong but I thought that when you buy from Bergman, the boxes are tested. You can get the Borgeson from other vendors but they won't have the Bergman hybrid coupler....
...and probably no hydraulic adapter fittings.
...rubbing. Steering did not self center after turning despite 4 degrees of caster. I traced it to the misalignment. Later when I swapped in a Borgeson box, I found a round bearing/housing in the stash and tack welded it to the column housing. This keeps mine centered now. I don't know if mine...
If I were offered a free rebuilt OEM box or pay for a Borgeson, the decision would depend on my wallet and my goals for the car.
For a car that I want excellent control and handling, Borgeson wins.
If the car is just a casual cruiser, I'd pick the original design and just live with the flaws...
Two things you can try. Switch to the Borgeson UJ. #036425 Mopar vibration reducing universal joint coupling. Try shimming the motor over to the passenger side a little. Motor Mount Shim Pack
...have this problem on the wagon when I did the work on it last month. So...I did get the front sway bar in and ready for the control arms. Borgeson box is in. I had to run a tap through the three mount holes in the frame as the threads were a little dorked up. Hosed them out with brake clean...
How long ago did you purchase the box? Is the hissing sound coming from the Borgeson box or from the pump?
How long ago did you purchase the box? Is the hissing sound coming from the Borgeson box or from the pump?
Where can I find a power steering pump with the pulley that fits my 67 Charger with a 383? I tried the Borgeson 800338 unit. It fit nice, without the spacers anyway, and I could finagle the hard line to work, but the return line on the pump they sent me will not fit between the fitting and the...
I am sold on Borgeson.
Dwayne is right...
Excellent point. With super boosted pumps and steering boxes that steered as if the tires were on greased ice, you don't notice the slop at the center of the wheel. Once the boost is lowered or the steering box is rebuilt with stiffer springs, that...
I think it's another manufacturer as well. It looks nothing like the one I posted which is the box that' in my 64. I have np idea who manufactured RWW's gearbox or how and if it can be fine tuned.
