Is dropping a valve seat a common problem with 440 Source heads?

My 383, .030 with 440 Source heads, tunnel ram, efi, it's a screamer.

440 Source rocker hold downs are much wider than the heads. Ha. But feeling much better about shaving these replaceable pieces over the heads. Will be test fitting prw, shaved 440 source hold downs and Pushrods this weekend.

Decided to go through everything, mains were mixed up, cast crank had a forged crank balancer. Likely going with a Callies/Scat/Icon 4.150 stroker with either 440 source stealthy or edelbrock performer heads.

If u do the aluminum heads you will also solve the leaded gas problem. Back in the day we had leaded gas, today no lead means the exhaust valves run hotter and will recede into the head or even burn. Later engines used hardened valves to solve this problem, and modern aluminum heads do also...

@zombezoo did you go for a set of the 440 source stealth heads ? Did you get the assembled heads with their valves / springs/ retainers ?

I’ve learned that they have a much shallower valve seat depth than other comparable heads. They did last for 10,000 street miles and hundreds of drag strip passes. I’m the poster child for torture testing things like that. Still not happy about it.

With the new pistons I bought, they have a 27cc dish, 440 source #5074. With the heads both being 68cc now I am going to need a thick head gasket. I can get Cometic up to .120". Using a .095" gasket puts the compression at 10.83:1. The .120" gasket brings it down to 10.3:1

I did 440 Source Stealth aluminum heads with a tunnel ram on a 383, 4 speed car. Extremely drivable, drive it all the time, mounds of torque for reasonable $.

I think you can get close enough to make you happy doing what you said you are willing to do. 451 flat top stroker from 440 Source, ported Stealth heads, 440 Source can probably tell you which of their cams to use with stock rockers. (I hate stock rockers, but I guess they will work for you.)...
