The '69 non-HP 440 in my truck has "some kind" of cam that gives it a very slight lope. It runs fine on a 50/50 mix of non-eth 89 and 93. I can't remember ever hearing it knock/ping. It's a manual and I've for sure lugged it a time or two.

A bad floor dimmer switch can do this. Check that ground wire first.

Just to be clear. The ground wire simply screws to the radiator support if I recall.

My road runner had green clips on the driver side, plain ones on the passenger side.

Then I'm almost certain those would connect with the Violet and green. (My guess is orange would be +, black -) You can connect everything and simply spin the distributor shaft with your fingers and check the coil wire to ground with about a 1/4" air gap. Check is start and run position on the key.

There's a black wire with wht trace that comes out of the headlight plug on the drivers side which provides ground (battery -). Maybe that's not connected. I'd put a meter on the headlight plugs as well and see what you get.

Big Bill, The exterior paint and reupholstery were the only changes according to members of both families. It really is a 'survivor' and the reupholstery is one-of-a-kind. I'm hesitant to go back to original Y4 paint and (black) interior.
