Maybe some of the hose is separating/collapsing which will cause restrictions. Also, every brass/steel fitting involved from tank to carb is a restriction. Look on the inside of them. They are not the diameter of the hose.

I've had SEW gear-drive motors do that on site..... pressure builds up internally and the oil has to go somewhere. :) One of them I was told the guys who built it left the protecting o-ring on then painted it with special Harsh-conditions paint....moroons. :rolleyes:

I would disconnect the supply hose on the fuel pump, hook up another hose and run it to a gas can. If the problem still exists, bypass that AN hose to the carb and check again. But if it goes away, then it's something before the pump, maybe a collapsing hose, debris, etc.

Yes you need to get your timing at idle up. Minimum 20-25*. Ill bet you gain gobs of idle vacuum. It will probably fix your rich idle because the PL won’t be open at idle .
