I don’t believe that is correct. The temp and fuel gauges are fed by the voltage limiter. The oil pressure is fed by another power source - I think the Ignition switch. At least that’s the way it is in the ‘65 dash.
I don't care so much about the sound. I just wanted to put in a reliable starter with a lifetime warranty. Those mine starters I tried were a breeze to install. I put two studs and learned to hook up the wiring first and bolt it in.
