Any Pontiac Fans here???

I have always liked Pontiacs as one of the GM underdogs. Everyone has a Camaro or Chevelle. My buddy has been a big Pontiac enthusiast for over 30 years. He has a 68 Lemans convertible and a 69 Lemans hardtop that we have built up pretty good with an Edelbrock headed 468 Pontiac that has run a best of a 10.004. He has yet to get that 9 sec pass....

A friend of mine showed me his 1963 Tempest coupe that he is restoring. It is a very cute car with the slant 4 (half a 389) in it. He also has a couple of 1965 GTO's.

The 9.99 target goal is certainly nothing new. It's actually a narrow window being going under 9.90 is not allowed by most home garage builds due to missing additional required safety measures. My last attempt with a mid 10 sec 451 Duster build with new B1 heads. Now running over 12:1 compression thru a big E85 carb setup. Perfect track conditions. Cool weather morning with slight tail wind. Car feeling meaner than ever? And BOOM! I neglected to upgrade driveshaft H/W. Lol.

Something I never knew…

Just within the last couple of weeks I discovered Pontiac had their own version of what looked like the Corvette.
I’m not a Corvette fan personally, but I found this a neat little piece of history I never knew until recently.

“The Pontiac Banshee was a concept car developed in 1964 as a competitor to the Ford Mustang. The XP-833, as it was originally codenamed, was the first of four Banshee concept cars produced by Pontiac between 1964 and 1988. The project was canceled due to concerns that it would hurt Corvette sales, but a few prototypes were leaked. Only one of the two driving prototypes survives today.“ - c/o Google

1973 SD Trans Am 4-speed red on red.

Having grown up with these cars and working on them, it's hard NOT to be a Pontiac fan. I remember my buddy showing me a pic of that 73 SD455 when it was introduced. If I had the $$ at the time, it would've been sitting next to my Mopars.

and the project was led by John DeLorean from what I've read about it.

I believe it started with DeLorean. He and upper GM brass had more than one feud back in the day. Where I believe he had enough of the corporate politics. And found plenty of trouble on his own?

The rest is history.

I really like the classy 8-lug wheels that Pontiac introduced in the early '60's. These must be among the first optional styled wheels, as an alternative to steelies. This trend continues to this day.

A buddy up here ran a 468 ehead 66. 8.9- 9.0 with a 3 spd. 1.18 60 ft. Very light car.

My daily driver is a Pontiac. But it's a Montana, so not very exciting.

The two Pontiacs that I had that were more energetic were a 1972 LeMans convertible with 455H.O., and a 1974 Formula 400 4 speed.

I was raised in a Pontiac family, well my stepdad Bob was a Pontiac guy
edited; corrected some stuff
he knew Mickey Thompson, to what extent I don't exactly know their friendship,
I knew they had a falling out years later, over money IIRC
Bob his head crew guy Wess Chandler was good friends with Mickey 'allegedly'
I did see them talking a lot...
I do remember when Mickey was into Drag Racing
he was running a Hemi X-Headed (rare) Pontiac-Powered F/C
(69-70 Mustang ? body ? I think ?, I was like 8-9-10)
when my Mom married him/Bob, in 1967 (66 ?) he had the 1st of his SS/H 64 GTOs,
had several others 65, 69 & a couple of 70-71 Judges, a few gen 1 400 Firebirds
all SS/H, G to K, he knew or were acquaintances with
*Arnie Bezwick (spell) & with a bunch of Tin Indian guys, that Mickey knew
Bob bought parts from
& they all parked with each other at the drags,
a lot in fall, winter & spring times in SoCal Calif., when other tracks back east were closed,
among other brands, Bob was a Ford & Plymouth guy too

I've had a bunch of Pontiacs, some because of Bob, cheap
but mostly Trans Ams, gen 2, 3 & 4 , several were racecars, or SLP Firehawks
I like the early gen 2) 70-73 the best, 70-71 Ram Air II cars,
I had the T/A 74 5th Anniv., 79 10th Anniv. (POS), 89 20th Anniv. turbo'd Buick GNX v6
& 25th Anniv. editions, all in white with bule accents
a later 93 Formula GT, SLP 315hp LT1 car last of the gen 3 body style (red-same, as the Firehawks)
had a 74 TA SD 455 4 speed car (red again, I hate red) & a couple of early GTOs, 64 & 65
& 68 Firebird 400 4 speed, the precursor to what was the Ram Air I

only have a few crapy photos (digital photos of framed Polaroids)
92 TA T/S outlaw P/S 6.69 @ 217 best pass, fastest doored car I ever drove/owned

Oddly enough I just watched Smokey And The Bandit last night after buying a 1:43 scale DieCast of the truck… and I will admit yeah I also have a Pontiac shirt and hat too, so yeah I definitely am a Pontiac guy! I love anything and everything.

I joined and went to the POCI event in Louisville in June. There was a lot of cool cars. The swap meet was lacking though.... I did find 2 sets of wiper arms for my satellite for $10 a set.

I also had this 2006 WS6. The LS motors are very easy to get HP and Torque out of. Bolts on heads, cam, intake, exhaust, and some tuning from Ed Wright put this one into the 11’s on pump gas as a daily driver with no weight reduction. How it ran at the track is how it ran on the street.

The "foreign" car appeal, only started with me in the last 15 years or so. I'm just so burned-out, after 50 years of mopar-only, and watching the hobby and people change.
