...my P/S belt was squealing but it is the water pump/fan-idler-crank belt.
The only thing that could even be considered imperfect about the Borgeson swap is the occasional stiff/inadequate assist that happens when I first start it up after sitting awhile. It sometimes feels like the assist is...
Get yourself a Borgeson box.
Here’s a good write up.

You only have to shorten if you had manual steering i believe.. a PS column is already too short for a borgeson, thus the longer adapter.. It's bout 1.5" longer than stock
I'm in the middle of the Borgeson Power Steering conversion. are there any good instructions here on the Modifications required to the Steering shaft. Im just trying to make sure I get it right.
Thanks
...each way drive for me so it’s not like I can just pop over there. This is also holding up my Bergmans order from shipping. I ordered the Borgeson power steering kit and brake kit from Peter at Bergman. I told him I didn’t know what size I had and he said he would look it up, and came back...
Thanks for the response. So I went ahead and installed the remanufactured box from Autozone. But after looking at it I'm fairly confident it's a Lares brand box. It appears to be doing alright. I've not driven it much. The only problem I had was I heated the original crush washer to restore its...
...the previous owner had my T/A box rebuilt there, was about 3 years prior to selling it to me, leaked like crazy. I would just get a complete borgeson setup if you can afford it, and forget about it, then it drives like a new car. technology has come a long ways in 50 years. i've installed...
Borgeson is complex. You might consider the recently marketed Lares 2.5 fast box. I put it in my 63 Fury and like it so far. The return connection, and maybe the input threads are different from stock. Lares Catalog - Lares Corporation
The trip to Van Nuys few weeks back.
I had Rich pull on the bracket as I tightened it. The belt was tight.
Either the pump is not up to the task, the belt slips despite adequate tension or the Borgeson unit just needs greater pressure. I don’t know where the problem lies just yet.
...is right for you.
No. If you buy a kit from BAC, the kit includes a new hybrid type coupler that makes the swap a bolt in deal. The Borgeson unit is actually shorter, smaller and lighter than any Mopar power steering unit. The hybrid coupler is longer to allow a stock steering column work...
Think I would just need hood and black wheels. Originally a 383 4 speed SB. Now has 496 stroker 6 pak. Doing a dana 60 rear, upgrading brakes from drums to power disk and installing a Borgeson ps.
Knowing what I know now, if Borgeson wasn't available, I'd do a FF Stage 1 or the lowest upgrade from stock from Steer and Gear AND upgrade my steering wheel from the large stock diameter to a 15" or 14" and call it a day.
Is the box truly "On Center" The input shaft on the Borgeson doesn't have a locator so it can be assembled in any position... If you are one spline off you'll have slop it what you are using as "On Center" The reason for this is the true center is ground to a tighter tolerance that the rest...
...it might as well look into upgrading. Not for any other reason than I’ve read posts about it and people say it’s good.
Can I just buy the Borgeson steering box and the Bergman no-cut coupler and make it work- or is it not that simple, do I have to buy the whole kit. I don’t race or often...
thanks for this! My box was installed not too many miles ago and I'm running a new (rebuilt) Saginaw pump. Less than 300 mi so far, but no noise or issues. I'll keep this info about the tuned Bergman box on file as a backup in case any future issues occur.
