Break in oil for new 440

One more vote for Penn Grade (10W40 for me). And, like Don said, after the initial break-in, just run a good ZDDP oil.

how critical is installed valve spring height?

That is a nice cam, I'm running the small block version in my 360. Pry the valve stem seals off. Usually two large flat blade screwdrivers work OK. Remove the spring seats and any shims under them, reinstall spring seats only and re-measure the install heights. If you use plus height retainers...

    8 year old new tires.

If your tires had flat spots you would also certainly feel it below 40 mph but in a different way. You may have a different issue causing vibration and are hoping to blame the easiest thing to change. I probably would too. It would be nice if you could borrow some known good smooth running...

Break in oil for new 440

Driven oil recommends replacing the oil and filter after break-in, then change oil with new break-in oil and run for 300 miles Max: Break-In Engine Oil Really, after break-in, I just us a good high ZDDP "Hot Rod Oil". You don't want to put alot of miles on with a true extra high ZDDP "Break-in"...

    TTI exhaust install

After installing the headers, install the tail pipe hangers and tail pipes for clearance around the fuel tank and axle. If you have exhaust tips, you might need to shorten the length of the tail pipes. Having the tail pipes in place will help determine where the mufflers need to be placed. You...

Break in oil for new 440

I would just use a 30W Valvoline VR1 conventional oil. I use Valvoline VR1 in all my engines and I've never had any issues. Plus, VR1 is easy to find and relatively inexpensive as oils go. Tom

Break in oil for new 440

A while back I contacted the Penrite oil tech line. The guy I spoke to seemed pretty knowledgeable so I guess the info will be good. Penrite recommend a specific run in oil for 100 miles and to stay in for no more than 500 miles. Some varying load must be used. At this point change to a mineral...

Post up facts and things that hardly anyone knows...... (for entertainment purposes only. NO need to fact check)

One of the most intricately carved pieces of marble is the statue "The Release From Deception" by the Italian sculptor Francesco Queirolo who finished it in 1759 after seven years of work. Everything you see, including every bit of rope on the netting, was carved from a single solid block of...

how critical is installed valve spring height?

Those high spring loads are a flat cam waiting to happen! Running a dirt track car? OK.... lots of oil splash to keep things lubed. Street car? No... I ran 160/335 on my race motors but not on the street unless you regularly run 7k driving to Dairy Queen
