First we need to know what engine we are speaking of?? I can only tell you for sure that big blocks are Orange wires and spark plug boots but small blocks may not be. Ron

The '70 Coronet is sitting outside waiting its turn. I'm sure the oil would stop rust but it seems weird to me. Not sure the smell would ever go away. Have you ever heard of this?

Were they packed with grease or dry? The bearing would have to completely seize for that to happen and/or the axle would have to be too small for a press fit. Usually the factory tapered bearings will self destruct at 60-70k miles if they are not regreased .
