Not sure if 05 is the same as the 02, but they had issues with the headbolts pulling the threads out of the block.

Back in 2012 my buddy & I put an engine in a 2008 Scion XB... The Girl who owned it was the caretaker for my buddies daughter, It should have been covered by Toyota but the dealer is a crook & she didn't scream loud enough... These engines have pistons with very short skirts so the pistons rock in the bore & the oil rings are known to fail... 60K miles & the thing was using 3 quarts every 1000 miles...

She bought it in 2010 with 45K miles, "Certified Toyota Used Car" with the Extended Coverage....

Kicked a rod out & they claimed she was negligent... I heard about it two months after they refused to fix it... She was still making payments & couldn't afford another car... Riding her bike to work...

Put a 6K mile used engine in it for her...
