I have a couple of the 1/4 turn ball valves on my out side water pipes and both of them leaked after a few years. My fix was to install brass Y adapters to them. The 1/4 turn valves are supposed to be industrial grade if such a thing exits. Worked fine for a couple of years but the Y adapters...

Not as nice as original Introl units, and they all look different in size and finish, but functionally okay.
A ground to the battery would be the best. However these systems ran from the factory with the regulator just screwed to the firewall. So as long as it's bolted clean, tight, and the body has a good ground to the battery (usually right at the core support from the negative cable) it'll function...
