Driving along a 100 kph road, about five cars behind me, but gaining on a group ahead. Being held up by a one ton camper van. Turned left on to a North South road with a 90 kph limit. camper van doing about 87. Entered left hand lane to pass. Was going to do that at the red light ahead, but it...
The grommet in the brake vacuum booster fell apart. Probably from old age. I have never seen the insides of a vacuum booster. Whatever is in there, now has a piece of the rubber grommet. I wrapped the nylon part, attached to the hose, and bunged it in place. Do these vacuum boosters need...
Probably more like exhale. The hole for the breather vent on the stock rocker cover, is 1 7/16. The tube from this vent goes to the base oft the new Edelbrock carb. The new rocker covers, 495 I think, have a hole that is 1 1/4. None of the Dodge breather units fit. But, Edelbrock has breather...
If I get time, I will lift off the intake manifold and have a look at the lifters and cam lobes.
I have an annoying ticking sound. Clacking when starting after sitting, and a slight misfire.
I have gone through the list of possibilities, and keep returning to a noisy lifter.
The cam and lifters...
New valve covers arrived yesterday. Edelbrock 4495 chromed steel. These are about one inch taller than stock. Look good. But the annoying tick is still there. And when I first fired the mighty 318 it was more like a clack clack. I think I have a lazy lifter. Have been chatting with Edelbrock...
Anyone in BC have a set of rocker covers, with more clearance for the rockers than stock.
77 318 LA motor. Stock covers have five bolts. Edelbrock would be nice, but not necessary.

77 B200 camper van. 318, 727. Edelbrock Performa cam, 1405 carb, new lifters and springs.
Book says line up the timing marks, but no clue about advance. Vacuum disconnected and plugged.
Any suggestions as to a reasonable amount of advance. Bought a new timing light. The old one was dead.
I have...
First time out the drive and on the road since about October last year.
Brakes need more bleeding. Put in a new master cylinder. Have not bleed the back brakes yet, and not much time on the front. But we can stop. 727 gearbox worked as planned. Can shift down to first, and keep it there. Auto...
We have lift off. Fixed the missing volts problem. Faulty key switch in the crank position, but okay to turn on everything else. New PerTronix ignition, new cam and lifters and springs, 8 new valves, and 16 valve guide seals. New gaskets.
Poured some petrol down the two vent holes, crank crank...
Mostly carb questions. I am reading the instructions so have some things figured out.
Which way around does it go? Does the Edelbrock badge go to the front. If so part of the controls hit the inlet manifold, and I would need a spacer about 5/16. I will study the setup a bit more tomorrow. I will...
These pieces have been together since 1977, until a super senior took them apart for a few changes.
There is probably a secret to putting the tail shaft back on, but no need to tell me, I will try not to take it apart again.
The circlip thing was on the bottom, hiding behind the rear mount. Had...
Hi folks. I checked the manual, and the previous threads.
Cleaning the engine before installing new bits. The part that the oil filter screws on to.
It looks removable, but I can not find any info. I would like to clean it.
My Haynes manual says engines up to 78 require extra fiddling to remove...
My TUKVAN, is a 77 B200 camper van. 318, 727, Dana 60.
Got it about 3 years ago from a friend. Reasonable price, free, another friend loaded it on a trailer and delivered to my place. $100. I towed it in to my drive with my 41 Ford 9N tractor.
First winter, I fixed the interior, and made it...
I added a post to my thread valve springs. Has pics.
The complete gasket set I bought has two types of seals. 8 look like the original smaller seals. 8 will not work.
The seals that were removed were of two different types. Are folks using all the same type, or different seals for the exhaust...
Stock 318 exhaust manifolds. Right hand side had a flapper valves with a spring, to help with cold starts.
So, I removed that and plugged the holes where the shaft used to be, with two bolts.
Noticed the centre ports are not flush smooth. I will buy a new file and attempt to make this area...
Goop. What most would call gasket cement.
Some gaskets like the water pump cover seem okay being naked, or having a bit of grease to hold them in place.
But, the rocker covers need something to hold them in place.
The head gaskets need?? And the sump or pan gaskets might like something...
Soon I will install 10228 shift kit. Meantime my question. Does the rear part of the transmission remove easily. I thought it would be a good plan to replace the gasket. This is the rear skinny part. I also have a new rear rubber mount. As always, thank you.
While removing the valves from the LH head today, I noticed some springs were shorter than others.
With them all removed, 8 are 2 inches, and 8 are 1 13/16. I checked the new set ( fancy looking ) and they are all 2 inch. I think it was the intake that were shorter. I am assuming this was from...
Are the heads simetrical? Symmetrical. Whichever is correct in modern US language.
Both heads are numbered, 4027183. But, one head has a large number 4, and the other a 3.
Without checking I think 4 is on the right.
Parts washer is working, and I am cleaning bits. Takes a while to remove the old...
Heads are off. Bore looks good. Removed two valves. Intake is quite snug in guide. Exhaust has a small amount of wiggle. Book does not talk about valve guides, but it appears there are guides.
So, do the guides punch out fairly easily?
I will blow out all the passages while the pan / sump is...
