Ok, so next up on my rebuild list is the rear axle and diff. 70 Charger SE, 383 HP, Auto, 8 3/4 Suregrip, 489 case (not sure of gear ratio until I remove the axles and pig). It was running/driving when parked in '83 (42 years ago) and everything spins. Based on the odometer, it has around 114k...
Based on the part number in the picture (2781937) , I believe I need the 7290 U-Joints. Are they the same (front and back) on a stock 70 Charger, 383 HP, Auto, and 8 3/4 suregrip? The yokes measure the same, so guessing they are the same but looking to see what's normal.
Do people rebuild them...
Ok, so went through the Tom Hand book, rebuilt everything, took my time during reassembly, reviewed my disassembly pictures as I reassembled - paying special attention to thrust washers and anything that didn't look right (many other posts as I went along), and guess what - I have too much end...
So I've read through many threads on Torque Converters; however, I'm still not sure what to buy for my car.
1970 Charger SE - 383 HP, auto, sure-grip (don't have the build sheet and haven't popped the diff yet to see what the ratio is). I'm keeping everything stock, I didn't crank the HP, I'm...
Mine had one that hooked together on the ends and one that didn't hook. The rebuild kit seems to have 2 non hooked ones for replacement.
As I know (based on my other question) that someone has it apart, what is correct (books don't show it clearly).
Thanks
Ross
For the rear clutch subassembly, I think this thrust washer should be replaced. I don't match any in the thrust washer kit - all the similar sized ones have tabs on them
Should I just clean up the original?
Thanks for any advice or hints on where to buy / part number for the correct replacement.
All, does the bushing look bad enough to replace? It's discolored but I don't feel any grooves. I have the bushing, but not sure how to extract the old one. Is my only option a chisel - not really a lip behind it to get a bushing driver in there.
Thanks in advance
Ross
All, on the reaction shaft there are what looks like ball bearings (see pic). Are those supposed to move or spin at all (they don't currently).
Also on the pump there is a tiny indent (2nd pic). Anything to worry about - might have been there since it was made.
Thanks
Ross
Looking for a Pie Tin for my 383 HP 1970 Dodge Charger in good condition. I have the original one, but it's in rough shape.
I'm considering restoring it - if anyone has hints/paints colors, let me know. I'm also considering buying a RED one (still available in many places) and masking it off...
Does anyone have the quantity, type, and location of the brake line clips that are welded to the rear axle? I have 1 that's currently in place and what looks like 2 other locations where they "may have been" at one time. I'm going to remove the diff and axles for rebuilding/replacing bearings. I...
I've been assembling the front suspension on the K-frame. I attached the lower ball joints (both new sourced from the same place) - one feels stiff and the drum stays vertical. The other side feels loose and the drum flops out.
What say the experts - is the "loose" one bad out of the box...
I bought it about a year ago and have been relying on it for finish info, part numbers, finding date codes, etc. It seems like a good reference overall; however, I ran into an issue and wondering what other people have found.
About a month ago, the shop doing my metal/body work called me and...
Ok, so the UCAs were rusted out on my car. I bought a used set off fleabay, disassembled, blasted, painted (closer to natural) pressed in eccentric bushings (based on other posts) and thought all was good.
I went to install the ball joint - bought plenty as part of the crazy low prices on...
These were on a 70 Charger without a finish panel it appears the tail is broken on the driver's side and the studs are shorter as well.

70 Charger Taillights. These have the reflectors inside. The trim holder eyelets are damaged, but they could be plastic welded/restored or glue the trim on.

Believe it's from a 70 Charger - removed and stored 40+ years ago. Beloved to be working when removed. Numbers on it are:
