Just the regular bolt ons with a cam upgrade will help. Changing the cam will help a decent amount even with stock heads, maybe something like the comp 268 extreme energy cam. I have the lunati 220/226 dur. @.050. 475/490 lift 112 lsa....i chose this because i have stock bottom end so low comp...

I have that linati cam in my 318 right now. I just broke cam in like a week ago. Sounds pretty good i checked vacuum at 850 rpm idle it was 10-12 inches. But im gonna check again sense gauge i had was dropped and always sits at -5 hg.

Right now im getting the exhaust put back up. Then ill fire it up again and use a timing light to see what comes up for initial, ill unplug and cap vacuum advance also just to be safe. Ill let u guy know what i foind.

Ya i know but by doing it the way i am would you not see when the inital timing was? I just wanted to see what it was at and didnt have a timing light when i fired it up

But if im turning the engine by hand so engine is off and the rotor gets to #1 on cap at 35 degrees the vacuum advance has nothing to do with the initial timing that i see on balancer u know what i mean. Im not using a timing light right now i just set it by ear and ran good, turn engine off...

I checked the balancer with piston stop it is marked correctly.....when i checked it i just turned the motor over by hand using the balancer bolt and cap off distributor to see when rotor got to number one cylinder. - - - Updated - - - It has a lunati cam in it, specs are.......220/[email protected]...

Has anyone here ever seen a engine run with 35 degrees initial timing? Broke in the new cam on 318 after break in i was checking stuff, timing was at 35 btdc? I used piston stop to check tdc and balancer is correct didnt slip outer ring? It ran fine and if u hit throttle she was good up to 3000...

I think it is fbo who makes a plate u can install instead of guessing how much slot to weld up so you can put initial timing to 25 and use the 10 degree slot to have 35 degrees total. Just use a timing light to see when your total timing all comes in.

U guys think the holley 600 would be to much I see a lot of 318 builds that use 650 dp and 750 vac sec. They are usually higher cr and bored, that's why I figured 600 would be perfect

Ya I figured the 600 vac secondary would be good didn't want to over carb, I also have a 750 hp holley think that is to much. What do u think about putting a 4 hole 1" spacer in I have one that also can be changed to a open spacer with different insert.
