    Steering column bearings

I just ordered the parts through Mega Parts, thanks for the tip. Yeah I know what you mean about Canadian customs, I ordered some XKE parts out of California recently and those parts spend over a month in customs alone...I'll keep my fingers crossed on this one.

    Steering column bearings

Does anyone know where I can buy upper and lower bearings and bushings for '70 Roadrunner, Automatic on the column. The bearings are my main interest but might need a complete kit including coupler. Thanks

    Suregrip carrier leak

If I go with gasket and sealer, I'm guessing I need to put sealant on both sides of the gasket? I read that Ultra Grey RTV is a better alternative to aviation sealer or should I go with AS #2. thanks for all the feedback

    Suregrip carrier leak

I need to change the gasket on a Suregrip rearend, do I need to add any sealant or just replace gasket? I see lots of work here (disconnect drive shaft, remove axles etc...) and don't want to have to revisit. Thanks

    Roadrunner floor mats???

I'd be interested in a rubber pair with the speeding bird if anyone has these.

    Coolant spill intake manifold

Well in the end it appears that the intake manifold was loose, in fact the bolts on the passenger side manifold were less than finger tight. I re-torqued the bolts and I notice that my idle lowered about 100rpm (vacuum leak?), so i readjusted to 800 and this car has never idled so good, in fact...

Rallye gauge readings increase when headlights turned on

'70 Roadrunner with Rallye gauges, just recently when turning on headlights I noticed all gauges (excluding ammeter) increase by about a 1/4 inch. Any ideas, grounding?

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

I had the timing set to 12 previous to replacing the ballast with no luck, all I know is when I replaced it the ping went away. I noticed the resistances were different between ballasts...it is also possible that there was a loose connection.

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

Problem solved, thanks for all the great feedback and inspiration. Replaced the stock ballast with the one from the kit (doh), set the timing to around 12 degrees btdc and voila, runs like a beast. I'm pretty sure it was the ballast.

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

Is there any special coil requirement for points and electronic ignitions, or are they interchangeable?

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

There is a stock timing marker (up to 15 btdc, I believe), but I don't know how accurate it is, I think checking the TDC is good advice (will do).

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

It's an orange box and the distributor is specifically designed for this application.

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

Anywhere above 15 degrees I get lots of pinging, anywhere below 15 degrees I get a slight ping that doesn't appear to go away upon lowering the timing. The engine runs like crap (hard acceleration) if I use the starting 5 degree recommendation (carbs adjusted). Do you know what is the...

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

Thanks for the great feedback, I just purchased an adjustable timing light (amazon), I will check the adjustability of this distributor, if needed the limiter plate seems like a likely option, I see Mancini sells these. This should be fun!

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

I don't have a tach and no scale on the balancer...but I'll try to take a guess on total timing. I've been adjusting the carbs as I change the timing based on, manifold vacuum, idle speed (guesstimate) and idle smoothness. I'm not sure this distributor can be "recurved", I'll have to do some...

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

Well I just talked to Summit Racing and they said I would need to connect my vacuum advance to get rid of the ping (it's adjustable)...so I guess i'm going to go back to points as my metering block (on the center carb) doesn't support vacuum advance...anybody want to buy a slightly used...

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

I'm not sure what the total advance is as it's hard to read, they do say in the instructions to start initial timing at 5 and lower as needed. I might add that I'm not using vacuum advance, also i'm using the stock ballast not the kit ballast. Here's the kit

Just converted to Electronic Ignition, can't get rid of ping

I just installed a SUM-850005 electronic ignition kit in my '70 RR 440+6. I can't seem to get rid of a slight ping when accelerating hard, when I set my timing anywhere below 10btd the car runs like crap, seems to run well at around 12-15btd but get a slight ping when I hit it. Any ideas would...
