Wasn’t just the brakes. Ring gear had teeth missing and pinion gear busted up but the shaft was still intact. Disappointed when realized I can not get 3.91 or 4.10 for my 741 case. Going 3.73 for now and will be buying a different center chunk with steep gears for a swap later on and 2 to choose...
will do. I’m just hoping didn’t wreck too much in rear end and that isn’t too costly. A gear change at the same just makes sense if going to do it. I enjoy the hard acceleration more than highway cruises. Most drives are 20 minutes or less
It’s not the brakes. Had the drums off in the video and definitely coming from center. Was turning axle by hand. Wasn’t even ridding in it when the noise started. Oh well maybe put some 4.10s in if chunk is coming out
For some reason video was not available. Reloaded now so should’ve good
This is the sound I get when I turn the axle by hand from rear end. How bad does it sound?
It sure seems like it’s coming from rear end area. I pulled the drive shaft and blocked up rear of car. The wheels go from turning freely to feeling like brakes are on about 2-3 different places in 1 full rotation of the tire. Seems like bearing may be it but not sure at this point...
i have narrowed a grinding noise down to coming from rear end area of car. It is a grinding noise. When it first started in my drive yesterday I originally thought it the exhaust dropped and started dragging. Not the case. Blocked car up and it makes the noise while in forward and reverse but...
It’s not the converter bolts. They are good. Only does it in drive when moving. Not coasting in neutral either. Here’s a pic of the rubber tranny mount. Would that cause it like mentioned? It looks like it tore along the top and see splitting on bottom
Took my 67 Belvedere for a quick drive and all the sudden I got a noise that sounded like something dragging under the car. It’s a 727 auto with a 8 3/4 rear. Coasted in to driveway and thought maybe U joints but not the case. No fluids running out anywhere. When coasting with car in drive it...
