21 Years ago I sold my '68 Charger 383 Auto when I came across this 440 4 Speed. Figured if I was going to have a Charger for the rest of my life, it should be a 4-speed. Guy that I bought it from had an interesting story. He had bought a '68 GTX brand new and his buddy bought this Charger...
Sigh. I don't mind the warts, but I really don't like the unknown and the advice seems to be that what I see might very well be like the the top of an iceberg. I just spent way too much money getting the engine rebuilt recently and promised the wife I wouldn't be spending any more $ on this...
I've had this '68 just over 20 years. It was painted right before I bought it and about 10 years ago the first few rust bubbles started popping up. The car very rarely gets wet and the bubbles have been very slow to grow/spread, but there are probably 5 different areas showing a few bubbles...
On the pessimist side of the equation, my '68 RT is sitting in the garage sans engine and it was making almost the exact same noise.
With a stethoscope I could tell it was something internal vs. what I had really hoped was going to be an exhaust leak. I pulled off the oil filter, cut it open...
If you are in the Portland area and into B-bodies, you've probably run across Gary at Meyer's Auto Body. If not, might be a good place to reach out to. My "68 Charger is in his shop right now and I've yet to meet anyone who knows more about these cars than he does. Plus he seems to know how to...
Gorgeous car. I have it's twin in green. Also pulled the 440, kept the same exhaust manifold and played around with different intakes on the dyno. Was surprised the the performance gain with the Performer set up. It gave a clean 20 HP bump to all the others I tried. I went that route on...
My thinking is that if someone really wanted my car, chances are they are going to get it or destroy it trying. My bigger concern is the opportunist. With that in mind, I keep a Club on it whenever it is out of sight and if I think it needs more, I pull the coil wire out and put it under the...
I used http://www.aajbrakes.com/ for swapping out the front drums on my '68 Charger. It was straight forward and not a big investment. For me, it made a noticeable difference although I'm sure an equal amount of attention on the original drums would probably have made a difference too.
My Charger (with 440) runs fine in winter or at speed, but with traffic in the summer it gets hot. Because I like to show it and the engine shows well, I didn't want to modify it. I picked up an aftermarket fan that easily sits infront of the radiator and stays in place with a bungee cord. I...
For 15 years I had 225/60-15's on Magnums across all 4 corners on my '68 Charger. It was a great balanced look that filled the wheel wheels without looking too far off stock. Recently I upgraded the rubber with 255/60-15's on the back. Jury is out for me. The back hooks up much better now...
