Ok. I will try a couple things. Thank you. Now....I am not a professional and I don't know half as much as most people on here. I'm just posting the instructions in case someone doesn't have access to them or is just curious. I also notice that the fsm and transgo say 2 1/2 turns out on the bands?
Not sure on the clutches, but yes, I installed the orifice plug. I was wondering if it might be because of that plug. For some reason, my brain is telling me it didn't do that until after I put that plug in. But I can't remember. I've have had the pan off so many times, tried 2 valve bodies...
Ok. Thank you all for the comments. In case anyone is curious......here is what TRANSGO says about. They sent me this in an email. 2 pictures and a short story.
TransGo says....
"As for the harsh engagement it was just a very common and annoying issue on those, they were very prone to that...
Ok....here it is....I am having a harsh shift into reverse from park or neutral. I have a 727 with 69 year stamps on it. It's been supposidly rebuilt before I got it. Fluid and filter looked new. I have dropped the pan multiple times and readjusted both bands to 72 in lbs and then 2 1/2 turns...

Couldn't get the stumble to go away. Removed Street Demon and installed Edelbrock. Problem solved. Oh well, I really wanted the street demon to work but its just not going to work 100% correctly. I can finally chirp the tires. Big difference.
Yes. I have. I have tightened the secondary air door(counterclockwise) about 4 1/2" turns and I'm afraid to go much more because I've seen some people break those springs. Tightening it did help a little bit but did not solve it. I'm going to try another 1/2-1 turn probably.
I was wondering that. I'm definitely not an expert on carburetors.Thank you for explaining it nicely. Ok. I'll research that and how to diagnose it. But still, I feel like I'm missing something simple. I think I'll try an edelbrock I've used before on a built 440, without issues and then at...
Yes. I agree. I'm looking at discharge nozzles but haven't picked a size. I also have a couple edelbrock 750s and i think im going to pop one of those on it. I haven't had any problems running edelbrock 750s on my 440s. Fuel tank is 3/4 full. I added 5 or 6 more gallons of gas and recalibrated...
