Best shafts for Crane ductile rockers.

Same here have been using Hughes shafts in my eng since 2011. Still going strong. Ron

    Purple shaft lifter issues?

Dwayne Porter at Porter Racing Heads. He is the best IMO as I run a solid flat tappet cam he did for me. Its a solid flat tappet that he had Nitrided (hardened) and he sent me the EDM solid lifters with the tiny hole in the bottom that puts oil on the cam lobe from the hole in the bottom of the...

    Hughes or Harland Sharp rockers

My Hughes rockers are pretty much dead center on the valve head. As I said they have worked perfect for me for well over 10 years in my mild 493. My cam is a mild flat tappet of .585 & .592 lift but the Hughes have worked awesome for me and my combo. Ron

    Hughes or Harland Sharp rockers

All I can tell you is I use Hughes roller tip rockers in the 440/493 in my 63. I built the eng and installed it in the car in 2011. Its a mostly street car that I drive to the track about once or twice a year and race in the NSS class. Its almost 11 years on the eng and these rockers have been...

    Down the rabbit hole ...

Did you get the tranny fixed for third gear ? Third gear is just the front and rear clutchs as no bands are on in third. How is reverse as it also used the front clutch in reverse along with the low/reverse band but at a much higher pressure so many times reverse can still work if the seals are...

    440x6 air cleaner and PCV

Actually Ford and Mopar also used air pumps on some years to help clean up emission's. But on the closed PCV system like the pic posted on #11 the reason they did that was so at wide open throttle when vacuum is about zero instead of crankcase fumes pushing out the valve cover with the open...

Engine - Compression - Timing Comparison

Got ya as I thought you were talking about a boosted eng only. Sorry about my missunderstanding. Ron

    Valve covers and gaskets?

I use aluminum heads on my 440 with a aftermarket aluminum valve cover. I have used the Blue Moroso which they say you can use over. But if you go a tad to tight sometimes they tore and leaked a little so you have to be sure and not over tighten them. The last time I used a Fel Pro gasket thats...

    TF500A????

On the RH hydraulic gov trans which were up to 1995 had the three pin connector when they were the overdrive trans with lock-up. The center pin was a 12 volt feed to the overdrive and lock-up solenoids and the two outer pins were the grounds going to the PCM for the overdrive and lock-up...

    TF500A????

We called them the same name in later years at the Dealer because they are basically the same trans. A500/518 is a hydraulic overdrive trans like the RH overdrive trans. And I have always called my 63 a B-body. Ron

    Zinc additive?

I use the Valvoline VR1 racing oil and also add a small bottle of zinc additive when I change my oil. Been doing it this way for over 10 years and my flat tappet cam is still going strong. Ron

512 stroker with duel plane intake lean right side bank?

I always felt the same until I decided to try the Indy dual plane intake on the 493 in my 63. I was told by Dwayne Porter it should work good on my eng since its a 99% street car and it has pretty good size ports so it flows pretty good for a dual plane. So I went with it and have been happy...

512 stroker with duel plane intake lean right side bank?

I have been running the Indy dual plane intake on my 63 with an 850 DP since 2011 and it has not done any problem like that. Its a mild 440/493 with basic EZ heads but all my plugs normally look very close to the same. Good luck getting it straight. Ron

    Torque Converter Shudder??

Generally non lock-up converters dont cause a shutter. Now lock-up converters can and have as they have a clutch in them and it can feel like a clutch vibration. I am guessing you dont have a newer lock-up trans in your car ?? Make sure also its not an ign miss at times. Ron

Anyone ever have their 383 dyno'ed? Just trying to get a idea...

They were 452 iron heads I milled for a true 9.5 comp as it ran on 92 or 93 pump. I did some mild pocket porting (bowl blending) on the heads but kept the stock 2.08 and 1.74 valves. Thanks for the kind words. Ron

Anyone ever have their 383 dyno'ed? Just trying to get a idea...

I never dyno'd my old 383 in my 72 Dart but the car ran a best of 12.31 @110 and it was a pretty mild build. It was a stock bottom end I rebuilt and I used the old MP .484 cam on a 104 centerline with all stock non adjustable rockers. Bolted the Eddy RPM intake on and a 750 Holley DP. Headers...

Senior needs help with selection torque convertor

If thats the older 484 cam thats 284 advertised then no way would I run a stock converter. I ran the old 484 cam in a 383 Dart and used the Turbo Action tight 3000 converter and ran 3.91 gears. It worked nice and could even used a bit more converter. The eng was mostly stock with headers and a...

    How much power?

Myself I build my cars with an et goal so I try to build the eng with the power I will need to run the et I want at my weight. So on my 63 Sport Fury I wanted to dip in the 10's in full street mode driving it to the track. So I built my eng to make around 600 flywheel hp and about 500 at the...

    Trans

Hard to get into first is because you need more clutch adjustment. Is this a new or rebuilt trans ? Because a loose bearing can also cause them to pop out of gear. I had a bad and loose rear bearing making my old 4-speed pop out of gear. But always make sure the linkage is adjusted right and...
