I saved one by pulling the heads spraying pb blaster and tapping each piston daily with a block of wood and a hammer. After a couple days work the crank with a breaker bar.
Haven't had that issue but when I put the bird together 8 years ago I got it running and put it in gear. It moved about 10 feet and quit. I pulled the transmission out thinking it was bad. Well it wasn't. Fact is there are two different torque converters out there. The one I used did not fit the...
I have a friend that has a machine shop. That is all he recommends 15/40 Rotella. He builds all kinds of engines but insists that is the best for older flat tappet engines.
When I had the bad head gasket I never got anything in the oil or on the ground. It just simply over heated. I let it cool down and fired it up with no radiator cap. With in a few minutes it pushed a large amount of antifreeze out and was hot. I changed both head gaskets and now it runs 190 all...
Then it is either valve guides or like someone said going through the PVC because it does not have a baffle. With bad valve guides they usually smoke a bit at start up because of oil leaking down the valve stem. Usually just a little puff of smoke then clears right up.
Another tell tail sign of bad seal at rings is get engine at temp. and pull the pvc out of the valve cover and the oil cap on the opposite side. At idle look to see how much blow by you have. If rings aren't sealed you will have blue smoke coming out. A little is common and ok but shouldn't be...
Something wrong with your advance. Back in the day the best premium fuel was only 101 to 103 and they ran fine. I run the same set up as you and we only have 91octain out here. Never had a ping problem. The more advance the more prone to ping. I run stock advance with a pro comp dist. Of coarse...
I will have to look again. It was in my 68 charger but it will be in a 73 U code charger later on. I bought a U code charger with no engine. I was in hopes it was a charger engine because it will be at least period correct. Were the 440's in 73 chargers still HP motors? And thank you for your...
OK I pulled the 440 out of the 68 today. On the passengers side I found these numbers
1*25*73
36988304408
D N
Then above the oil pan in the middle was C239005
So what does this all tell me?
The 440 I am pulling out of my 68 has J 440 3 6 E on the pad by the distributor. If I get this right I think it is 3rd month 6th day of 73 right or are these number something else. All help appreciated.
Thanks
Good thread! I was just about to order a set of mounts. So where do you order these Mighty Mounts? Has anyone had experience with their fit and quality? I am like you as when you pay for a product you want the product to be right. There is right and not right. I am tired of the old saying I see...
